Some More Broccoli, Beans, and Peppers

This week was kind of busy for this time of the year with the harvesting of beans, peppers, and broccoli.  I was not surprised with broccoli because this is the fall season and I expect them to continue growing and flourishing.

I was most surprised with my beans because I thought I had picked the last of them in the previous harvest.  I was going to save the last for seeds, but I noticed that there were actually plenty more to pick.  I made sure that I did leaves some of the large pods on the vines because those will be used for next years seeds. Harvested First Heads of Broccoli

Not a whole much has been going on garden wise except for my broccoli starting to produce heads and side shoots.  Once I pick the head the plant should begin to show signs of side shoots where more broccoli will start growing.  This should last until the ground freezes or in a couple of months.

Most of my broccoli plants do have heads or are in the beginning stages of producing heads.  I will have to start cutting them in the next few weeks and to enable them to continue growing smaller broccoli which I can use and enjoy. (more…)

Peppers, Broccoli, Eggplants, and Plenty of Rain

It has been quite a while since I wrote a post on this blog.  It has been raining this entire week and there was nothing really to do in the garden except harvesting some peppers when it did stop raining for an hour or two.

I did manage to pick some peppers before all of this rain started and I got the largest harvest for the season.  I did not have time to pick some more beans, but with the cool weather they seem to no longer be growing flowers for more beans.  The ones that are out there I might just use for seeds for next year. Broccoli is Coming and Last Big Harvest of Beans

This is going to be a short post because there is not much that has happened between today and the last post I wrote.  For now many plants are done producing and gardening is coming to a close for the year.

Right now I have finished the last zucchini of the season yesterday and today I picked the last big harvest of beans.  Three containers were filled with large pole beans and there were not many left on the vines. (more…)

Pumpkins are Now Ready For Picking

I thought I was going to wait until October to pick them off the ground and bring them in, but a couple of them looked like they were starting to rot and might not make it until next month.  I had a couple that would have been find until next month, but I would rather pick them all at once.

A total of four pumpkins was harvested this afternoon and I look forward to using them by the end of October.  This is why I grow pumpkins and is something I look forward to each and every season. (more…)

Weeding Broccoli and More Garden Harvesting

I thought I would wait to write a post once I had finished weeding my broccoli and had some more harvesting to share.  This would include the last cantaloupe, some more peppers, and again more beans.  I also took two days to fully weed my broccoli plants.

After a couple of days of rain I knew that my broccoli would do quite well, but on the other hand the weeds would shoot up like crazy.  That is exactly what happened and I wanted to make sure that they didn’t affect the growth of my broccoli plants. (more…)

Eggplants Picked and Corn Stalks Removed

Now it is time for my eggplants to begin ripening and I should be picking many more of them in the near future.  I only picked two of them so far, but I still have at least five more growing on six different plants.  Some of them have only flowers while others have either one fruit or multiple eggplants.

The bigger eggplant weighed one and a half pounds and the smaller vegetable one pound.  This is an average size for eggplants and I can still make a good size eggplant Parmesan with these two vegetables. (more…)

Two Bowls Overflowing with Pole Beans

Just a quick post today about some of the vegetables I collected this past week.  The last post I discussed about some beans that I collected which weighed about nine pounds.  This week I actually was able to pick many more than the previous harvest.

I was actually surprised there were much more than before.  I didn’t make any record, but still 13 pounds is pretty good for one harvest.  It was so much that I overfilled two bowls just to get them all in without having to get a third bowl. (more…)

More Beans, Corn, and Peppers with Eggplant on the Way

This week was more harvesting of various vegetables including beans, corn, and peppers.  For now these will be the main harvesting vegetables that I will be picking over the next couple of weeks until my eggplants are ready.

I have about five eggplants growing on three plants which have been getting bigger each day since about a week ago.  My other plants are finally starting to get flowers and I think they will have enough time to start producing eggplants of their own. (more…)

Largest Tomato and Corn Harvest of 2015

The climax of the season is coming to a head and with the large harvests of corn and tomatoes I think that the season is starting to come to a close.  There is always a busy part of the season where I collect the most vegetables and fruit.  It looks like the past two weeks are the max I will get from my garden.

This not only includes corn and tomatoes which I collected this week, but with all the melons I picked around the same time, cucumbers, zucchini, and the pumpkins which I will be harvesting very soon. (more…)
