Harvest of Corn with Steakhouse Tomatoes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is just a short post I wanted to write about the two harvests that I had performed today.\u00a0 It has been a while since I had picked my first steakhouse tomato and my first ear of corn.\u00a0 Now that my corn and tomatoes are starting to ripen I thought it best to start picking them right away.<\/p>\n<p>If I happen to leave corn outside for too long they can get real tough and it would have been a waste of time to grow all this corn in the garden.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Once I started looking at many of the ears of corn and saw that they were ripe I knew I had to pick all the ones that were ripe and not leave any on the stalks.\u00a0 There are still some that were not ready and I will pick them later in the week.\u00a0 For now I only picked 22 ears of corn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-025.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1092\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-025-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Large Harvest of Corn 2015\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-025-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-025.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are only about twelve or so and the others I picked a few minutes later once I went through each corn stalk.\u00a0 Most of them came from the first to second section of corn stalks and the last one should come very soon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-071.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1093\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-071-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Corn with Husks Removed\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-071-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-071.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I placed them in a pan once I had peeled them all and had them with my dinner.\u00a0 I will save all the others for another meal.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time I saw that many steakhouse tomatoes from one of my plants were loaded with red fruits.\u00a0 Once they turn red I make sure to pick them right away.\u00a0 If I leave ripe ones on the plant they can sometimes fall and turn rotten real quick.\u00a0 I got a total of seven of them for now.\u00a0 I may get more in the near future from other plants that I have.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-0341.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1094\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-0341-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Seven Steakhouse Tomatoes\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-0341-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-0341.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also have an update on some of the eggplants that are continuing to grow in the garden.\u00a0 They are probably one of the last vegetables to be harvested besides carrots and my fall crop which come much later.\u00a0 They are still growing and with the rain that has came they should be growing much faster.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Picture-1-054.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1095\" different plants, but these are just a couple I wanted to let you know about.\u00a0 I am also taking periodical pictures of the others which I will post later when I harvest them.<\/p>\n<p>I ate one of the first cantaloupes that I had harvested recently and it was an amazingly sweet and juicy piece of fruit.\u00a0 I could not be happier with the outcome of this melon and if all my others are just
