It has been quite a while since I wrote a post on this blog.\u00a0 It has been raining this entire week and there was nothing really to do in the garden except harvesting some peppers when it did stop raining for an hour or two.<\/p>\n

I did manage to pick some peppers before all of this rain started and I got the largest harvest for the season.\u00a0 I did not have time to pick some more beans, but with the cool weather they seem to no longer be growing flowers for more beans.\u00a0 The ones that are out there I might just use for seeds for next year.<\/p>\n

I think the first harvest of peppers in the beginning of the week I did pick about 14 peppers which is the most at one time this year.<\/p>\n

\"14<\/a><\/p>\n

Some of them were of good size while others were still small.\u00a0 I even got a couple of red ones that were left on the plant a little longer to have a variety of color instead of just green.<\/p>\n

\"Green<\/a><\/p>\n

Three and a half pounds is what I collected which is pretty good for peppers since they do not weigh that much.\u00a0 I also had another harvest this week only a few days ago when I had some time to pick seven more.<\/p>\n

I did not get as much, but this is still some more that I can use along with the others that were harvested.<\/p>\n

I have yet to pick broccoli and I am thinking that with all this rain and hopefully cool temperatures and some sun I should be picking them rather soon.\u00a0 I have a couple of plants that created the main broccoli early and once I pick it the plants should begin producing plenty of them through shoots on the side of the stalk.\u00a0 Here are some recent pictures I took this morning of my broccoli.<\/p>\n

This week of rain should have helped out most of my plants especially my broccoli since they need to have moist soil with good drainage.\u00a0 I placed some mulch around them to keep weeds out, but with this rain the mulch will also retain much of the water keeping the roots cool and preventing them from drying out any time soon.\u00a0 Drying out roots is less of a problem in the fall.<\/p>\n

I do have about three more eggplants outdoors that are still growing, but there time is almost up as well.\u00a0 Once I pick these last few that are growing that will be it on eggplants this year.<\/p>\n

\"Another<\/a><\/p>\n

As you can see my eggplants are just about done and soon I will be picking them sometime this week.\u00a0 I probably could pick them right now if I wanted, but I will wait until I pick the last of them.<\/p>\n

I can’t believe another season of gardening is almost over and I will soon be working on what to do for next season in another couple of months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
