in your own gardening.

Everything that I place under the lights usually takes about half the time that it would usually take if I had placed them in a windowsill. Some plants I start with the lights some I don’t. For instance the flowers I planted earlier in the season were started right in the windowsill. Along with them were the sunflowers, watermelon, and tomatoes. Everything else used the fluorescent lights which are a great help.

Since it is the beginning of the season the windowsill is only getting a limited amount of sunlight. While the days are getting longer your plants will take a little bit longer than if you were to plant them outside in the longest day of the year. This is something to keep in mind when growing plants indoors.

I just completed some more planting recently and I want to share with you some vegetables and flowers that I decided to grow. As I mentioned before the pepper and cucumber seeds were a couple of the older ones which I decided to see if they would grow. I purchased more seeds which included cucumber and peppers. I used peat pots for all the vegetables during this phase and small black plastic pots for the flower portion.

I also decided on using watermelon seeds that I had collected last year from my own watermelon. Since they are heirlooms I can use them for this garden season.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" Rattlesnake Watermelon that I grew last year. I took the seeds from this melon and saved as many as I could. Granted I saved about a few hundred when I only needed a couple for this new season. I placed them in the same three inch peat pots which you can purchase in any store. I planted six watermelon, seven straight eight cucumbers, and eleven sweet California wonder peppers.

I also had purchased a couple of different flowers that I thought might be good for attracting those beneficial insects. Some statice and calendula were placed in small black
