{"id":1256,"date":"2016-03-06T19:29:41","date_gmt":"2016-03-07T00:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/?p=1256"},"modified":"2016-03-06T19:29:41","modified_gmt":"2016-03-07T00:29:41","slug":"two-types-lettuce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/two-types-lettuce\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Types of Lettuce Being Planted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Similar to last season I am going to plant two types which include black seeded Simpson and the Ruby glow hybrid.\u00a0 Both of these plants I had last season, but I was not too impressed on how these plants grew and I want grow them again.<\/p>\n<p>I also had some problems with groundhogs which ended up eating most of the Ruby glow lettuce.\u00a0 This definitely decreased the yield that I could have received if I didn&#8217;t have to deal with these pests.\u00a0 That is why I am going to try it again this season.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Last year I used small plastic pots and I don&#8217;t think that worked out as well as I thought it would.\u00a0 Since these plants don&#8217;t need to stay inside that long I thought it would be wise to try out peat pots instead.\u00a0 This way I won&#8217;t have to worry too much about transplanting them.\u00a0 I can just place the whole pot right into the ground.<\/p>\n<p>This year I am planting nine of each type and <a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/lettuce-and-watermelon-planted\/\">last year<\/a> I think I planted a little bit more.\u00a0 I will most likely put these plants in between my spinach rows since this will keep all the cool weather crops together.\u00a0 I find that this works quite well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture-2-027.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1257\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1257\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture-2-027-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Lettuce Planted in Peat Pots\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture-2-027-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture-2-027-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture-2-027.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I did add one last container with my dill that I have under fluorescent lights.\u00a0 There was some space left for a smaller container, but the same exact setup was used.\u00a0 This container I decided on planting a variety of seeds including both types of alyssum and dill.<\/p>\n<p>I thought I would try out how these plants grow together in a smaller container.\u00a0 Hopefully it will work out well when it is time to place them in the ground.<\/p>\n<p>So far I have been planting my smaller flowers that can easily grow in large containers together.\u00a0 I will soon be working on larger flowers such as sunflowers, cosmos, calendula, amaranthus, and much more.\u00a0 After that I will then begin planting the seeds that will make up the majority of the garden this year.\u00a0 Make sure to check back here periodically to get updates on my garden.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Similar to last season I am going to plant two types which include black seeded Simpson and the Ruby glow hybrid.\u00a0 Both of these plants I had last season, but I was not too impressed on how these plants grew and I want grow them again.
