{"id":126,"date":"2014-03-31T16:12:22","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T20:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/?p=126"},"modified":"2014-03-31T16:16:12","modified_gmt":"2014-03-31T20:16:12","slug":"hardening-spinach-plants-outside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/hardening-spinach-plants-outside\/","title":{"rendered":"Hardening All Your Spinach Plants Outside"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before setting your plants outside in their permanent home there is one important step you need to proceed with.\u00a0 You need to make sure that you acclimate your spinach plants to the weather and temperature changes that it will face in the garden.\u00a0 People who forget this step usually end up with a poor harvest and wonder why it happened.\u00a0 Hardening is something that all gardeners face especially if you grow your plants inside or if you buy them from your local greenhouse.<\/p>\n<p>So far I have only <a title=\"Begin Acclimating Your Spinach to Outside Conditions\" href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/begin-acclimating-spinach-outside-conditions\/\">placed a couple of spinach plants outside<\/a> to get used to the weather and cooler temperatures.\u00a0 I have recently placed the rest of them to acclimate to these conditions that will make the transition from inside to outside permanently easier.\u00a0 You will be doing this for all your plants, but right now the temperatures are still too cold to begin placing anything else outside.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The temperature outside hits a low of just above 30 degrees which is still warm enough for your spinach plants to survive.\u00a0 This only occurs at night or early in the morning, but there is no danger of frost at the moment.\u00a0 You can always cover your plants with a simple cloth or a clear polypropylene plastic that will easily protect them from extreme temperatures if this was to happen.\u00a0 At the moment temperatures are going to reach into the low fifties the rest of the week which is perfect for growing delicious spinach.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Picture-3-001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-127\" alt=\"Hardening Spinach Plants\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Picture-3-001-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Picture-3-001-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Picture-3-001.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Half the plants were from the first planting set while the other smaller ones were from the second planting which I did about a couple weeks after the first.\u00a0 Many of the seeds were not sprouting and I had to decide whether or not to grow any more plants.\u00a0 I took the pots that had not sprouted and placed about four seeds in each.\u00a0 You can see from the picture that some are growing good while others are small.\u00a0 I will just have to remember to wait to plant the smaller ones until they get bigger and their roots stronger to make transplanting them easier.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before setting your plants outside in their permanent home there is one important step you need to proceed with.\u00a0 You need to make sure that you acclimate your spinach plants to the weather and temperature changes that it will face in the garden.\u00a0 People who forget this step usually end &#8230;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":127,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[60,7,6,61],"class_list":["post-126","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-spinach-2","tag-hardening-spinach","tag-planting-spinach","tag-spinach","tag-spinach-plants","column","twocol","has-thumbnail"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Hardening All Your Spinach Plants Outside - Eric&#039;s Organic Gardening Blog<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Hardening your spinach plants is one of the most important steps to gardening when you have plants indoors.
