Harvest of Iceberg Lettuce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today was a good day to do another harvest of my iceberg lettuce.\u00a0 Many of the lower leaves have reached the peak of how big they were going to get and this is when I like to pick them.\u00a0 I picked several leaves and most of them were very large which I am happy about.<\/p>\n<p>Today made a perfect day to pick them due to the rain they received early this morning.\u00a0 I like to pick them after a rain because this will help the plant grow more leaves after I pick the ones that are ready right now.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I collected over five containers filled with iceberg lettuce leaves.\u00a0 It sounds like quite a bit, but actually it most mostly because of the size that I needed five containers.\u00a0 Just check out the size of these leaves.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Picture-1-040.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1434\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Picture-1-040-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"One Iceberg Lettuce Leaf\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am actually holding this leaf in my hand and it completely covers my entire hand.\u00a0 I would say that this was the average size of the leaves from my plants.\u00a0 I am definitely not complaining because I will take size over quantity any day.\u00a0 In total 72 iceberg lettuce leaves were collected this morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Picture-1-053.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1435\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Picture-1-053-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Iceberg Lettuce Leaves\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After this was done I moved on to place ropes on my bean trellis to allow my beans to climb up the trellis.\u00a0 This keeps them off the ground and away from each other.\u00a0 It took about two hours to complete the entire task.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Picture-1-072.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1436\" 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On a side note I cut the middle of my lettuce plants because they were starting to partially go to seed.\u00a0 I like to remove the center ones I see seeding beginning to start.\u00a0 This helps to extend the season and if caught early the leaves will not turn bitter.<\/p>\n<p><a 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can see a little bit above that this particular plant was ready to go to seed, but I cut this part out to extend the sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I plan on tying off my tomatoes sometime this week.\u00a0 They are starting to get big and producing flowers.\u00a0 This means I will
