Now that it is the end of July and the month of August is upon us it is time to start planting seeds for a good October harvest.\u00a0 That is what I have done today with the planting of kale, cabbage, and broccoli.<\/p>\n

I decided to plant an equal amount of seeds using small black containers.\u00a0 I should have eight plants of each if all the seeds sprout in the next couple of weeks.\u00a0 This is all I need for a good harvest.<\/p>\n

To make watering easier in this hot weather I placed the pots into a tray where I can just fill up the tray with water and the water will go up through the soil and water the seeds.\u00a0 This should keep the soil moist and will prevent the soil from drying out in the hot sun.\"Fall<\/a><\/p>\n

I was going to plant some celery this season, but I don’t think I will have enough room for them.\u00a0 I will have to make sure to make some space for them next season.<\/p>\n

I want to give you a quick update on many of the fruits and vegetables that are growing in the garden.\u00a0 My plants are doing quite well including my melons which are getting bigger including watermelon and the first honeydew.<\/p>\n

\"First<\/a><\/p>\n

This is just one of the five of the watermelons that are growing in the garden right now.\u00a0 This is the first one to be pollinated a few weeks ago and the others are not that far behind in size.<\/p>\n

This is the first honeydew that is growing as of now.\u00a0 I plan to get at least one more and plenty of cantaloupes since I have plenty of plants.<\/p>\n

\"First<\/a><\/p>\n

Some of my tomatoes are finally ripening right now as well.\u00a0 It is only a couple of them and they are just cherry tomatoes.\u00a0 Cherry tomatoes usually start ripening all at once and soon I should have plenty of pickings to do in the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

\"Cherry<\/a><\/p>\n

You can see I am getting plenty of tomatoes I am just waiting for them to ripen.\u00a0 Once they begin to turn it won’t take long for the rest of them to begin to turn red.<\/p>\n

\"Cluster<\/a><\/p>\n

I am beginning to see some eggplants starting to grow a couple of days ago.\u00a0 They are very small, but it will take a while for them to get to a size where I can harvest them.\u00a0 I would say in another month I should be able to pick them.<\/p>\n

\"First<\/a><\/p>\n

Here is another eggplant that might start getting bigger as well.<\/p>\n

\"Possibly<\/a><\/p>\n

I also picked four more cucumbers yesterday which makes this a good season for these vegetables right now.\u00a0 I hope to get many more because I plan to store them in jars cut into spears like you would buy in the store.\u00a0 Basically I would be pickling them for use in the Winter when fresh cucumbers are not around.<\/p>\n

You can see from the picture below that these cucumbers are a good size and if I can keep picking them like this I will be happy with this years harvest.<\/p>\n

Here you can see a cluster of cucumbers that are just about ready to pick.\u00a0 I will probably be picking them sometime this week just by the look of them.<\/p>\n

Also I am getting pumpkins from my plants that I had planted directly in the soil.\u00a0 These were not transplants and instead of planting them in pots I just planted them right in the soil.<\/p>\n

Naturally they would take a little bit longer to get pumpkins because they didn’t have the head start that my transplants had.\u00a0 Nevertheless they are finally producing fruit which are getting bigger each day.<\/p>\n
