Watermelon Picked Along with Kale, Peppers, and More"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Getting the most out of the garden is the most important part of gardening.\u00a0 This season I think I did just that with all the fruits and vegetables that I have picked and still harvesting.\u00a0 With the largest watermelon that I have ever grown I think I have definitely accomplished my objective.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t have much vegetables left except for mainly my fall crops.\u00a0 I have been picking my kale lately and they are growing very large leaves which will make for some great kale soup this winter.\u00a0 I have been making sure to store them in order to use them later.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s first talk about the largest watermelon that I have ever grown to date.\u00a0 It weighed 46 pounds and I have beaten my record by a long shot.\u00a0 I think the second biggest I grew was only 20 pounds and this year I made sure to get at least one that was bigger and heavier and hopefully tastier.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_2869.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1686\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_2869-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Large 46 Pound Watermelon\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_2869-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_2869-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_2869-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although I grew the largest this season that means that next year I will have a new goal to grow one even bigger than this one.\u00a0 This doesn&#8217;t mean I will, but at leas I have something to shoot for.<\/p>\n<p>Now that most of my plants are pretty much done and cool weather is settling in it is time to pick the rest of the vegetables that are left.\u00a0 This includes peppers, eggplants, and the last of the tomatoes.\u00a0 Carrots and my fall crops will come later and they are not quite done growing.<\/p>\n<p>My tomato plants are over along with my eggplants since they are no longer growing fruit.\u00a0 My pepper plants are actually still growing and I will probably see what happens to them until the first frost appears.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_2977.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1687\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_2977-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Peppers, Eggplants, and Tomatoes Harvested\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" 768w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_2977-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Most of the tomatoes that I picked were green and were not going to turn red while being outside.\u00a0 That is why I decided just to pick the rest and place them on the windowsill in order for them to ripen.<\/p>\n<p>Kale has been growing good and because of that I have been consistently picking the leaves.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t pick all of them but instead just pick the oldest and the largest so they do not go to seed and continue growing.<\/p>\n<p>Just 24 leaves were picked this afternoon and hopefully I will begin to start picking some of my broccoli.\u00a0 The heads are getting bigger and this means soon I will have
