It is the beginning of 2017 and it is time to start thinking about what seeds or plants you would like to grow.\u00a0 This year I have some new seeds and plants that I ordered and am going to try out for the first time.<\/p>\n

I decided on getting a few different seeds including snow peas, radishes, and two different varieties of lettuce<\/a>.\u00a0 I also am going to try celery again which I would like to have fresh rather than getting it from the store.<\/p>\n

I also purchased a large packet of seeds meant to attract butterflies and hummingbirds which would be nice to see in the garden.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

These are just the seeds I ordered from Burpee, but I am getting a few other different plants from another company.\u00a0 I purchased June bearing strawberries and Yukon gold potatoes which should come when it is time to plant them.<\/p>\n

This makes about five new seeds and plants that I intend to grow this year.\u00a0 I have grown strawberries before, but they were ever bearing.\u00a0 This season I plan on using June bearing which should provide many more during harvest time.<\/p>\n

I also got some more stretch ties which I find to be perfect for tying tomato plants.\u00a0 These are very durable and they won’t cut the plant like twist ties do.\u00a0 I have been using them for a couple of years and have had great success with them.<\/p>\n

Each roll has 150ft. length of material and I bought three which means I have 450ft. to use.\u00a0 This should be plenty for all the tomatoes that I will be growing this year.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Other than the mentioned seeds and plants above I will stick to the usual for the garden.\u00a0 This includes tomatoes (cherry, steakhouse, and Roma), corn (jaws hybrid), cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant, pumpkins, pole beans, carrots, peppers, broccoli, kale, cabbage, lettuce (iceberg, butterhead, looseleaf, and romaine), cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, and onions.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I will be reducing the amount of beans and corn that I plant in the garden in order to make some room for these other vegetables and fruits that I plan on growing this year.<\/p>\n

I will also continue growing flowers as well which is the bulk of my transplanting that I do each season.\u00a0 These flowers are made to attract beneficial insects and pollinating bees.\u00a0 In addition to my butterfly and hummingbird mix I will be planting dill, cilantro, statice, amaranthus, sunflowers, calendula, cosmos, alyssum, cornflower, and queen Anne’s lace.<\/p>\n

It is basically much of the same with some new additions that I plan on trying this season. I am definitely looking forward to this season and let’s make it a good one!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
