Start of April Means Planting Onions and Lettuce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunny skies and warm weather means it is time to start planting onions and some other cold weather plants including lettuce.\u00a0 Although it is the beginning of April there still might be some cold days ahead.\u00a0 All that is needed is some row covers to protect your plants from a late frost.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I wanted to get my onions done this past Saturday, but unfortunately it rained the entire day making this very difficult to accomplish.\u00a0 Yesterday was not good because most of the soil was soggy and still kind of muddy.<\/p>\n<p>Today on the other hand was quite warm and some of the soil had dried enough that I could work on it and get my onions into the soil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5326.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1834 size-medium\" title=\"Onions Planted\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5326-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5326-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5326-768x512.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is also time to start planting some lettuce into the ground as well.\u00a0 I only took the best plants that needed to be added to the garden right away before becoming pot bound.\u00a0 It seems the best lettuce plants were the Butterhead types.\u00a0 Soon all the others will be added into the soil once they reach a good size.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5287.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1835 size-medium\" title=\"Lettuce Transplanted to Garden\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5287-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With warm weather it is a good time to take advantage of higher temperatures.\u00a0 Plants need to harden off and that is why I placed my dill, alyssum, and wildflowers outside for the day.\u00a0 At night I will bring them in because the nights are still too cool for them to be left outside all day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5252.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1836 size-medium\" title=\"Dill, Wildflowers, and Alyssum\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5252-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My tomatoes are doing well and since they are of decent size I thought it would be helpful to give them sun in the windowsill.\u00a0 This also goes for my eggplant, watermelons, cantaloupe, peppers, and cucumbers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5242.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1837 size-medium\" title=\"Tomato
