End Broccoli and Brussel Sprout Harvesting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><p>Now that the cold weather is here and a frost has pretty\nmuch eliminated most of the garden I now am focusing on harvesting broccoli and\nbrussel sprouts.&nbsp; I also have a couple of\nkale plants which I may start harvesting, but they were planted later than my\nbroccoli and may not get big enough to pick before a ground freeze occurs.&nbsp; &nbsp;Strawberries\nare also done and they are now covered with straw for the winter along with my\nrhubarb.<\/p><!--more--><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I get into the fall harvests I just want to mention\nthe eggplants that were picked a couple of weeks ago before the frost came to\nmy garden.&nbsp; A little more than a half a\ndozen of them were picked and with all the plants I grew I was able to get\nquite a few of them in total.&nbsp; This was\nthe last eggplant harvest of the season and was not a small one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_3736-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"the last eggplant harvest for 2019\" class=\"wp-image-2476\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_3736-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_3736-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_3736-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_3736-700x467.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Broccoli plants this season are growing well and are\nproducing large to medium heads along with decent sized side shoots.&nbsp; Once the head is cut the side shoots are what\nyou are looking for and those will be used for many different things.&nbsp; I have only cut a couple of them this year at\nthe moment, but I will have others that I need to cut during the week.&nbsp; The first head I cut is one of the largest\nones this year.&nbsp; Hopefully I will get\nmore big heads, but as long as they continue to produce I will be happy with\nthat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Brussel sprouts are pretty much done for the season and before they were finished I decided to pick them this season.&nbsp; I picked about half of the brussel sprouts that were growing on the plant stalk and left half of them on.&nbsp; I was able to get a few pounds of brussel sprouts from this harvest and I will probably get a similar amount from the rest that are still growing on the plant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"
