In the meantime I can get them started in pots so once warmer temperatures are here they will be ready to be transported into the garden. This year I decided to stick to a few seeds of spinach, lettuce, and kale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>Most of the time I just stick to spinach and lettuce, but this year I decided to add kale into the springtime crop. I normally plant kale in the fall, but this year I want to see if the spring will be more appropriate for them. I am looking to see if they are going to be more productive and hopefully produce large leaves.<\/p>\n\n<p>Once again this year I am planting spinach in pots, but instead of pots I will be using large pvc pipes for these seeds. These plants need lots of space vertically otherwise they might bolt and begin to seed making them useless in the garden. I did this last season as a test and it seemed to work out quite well. For now I am just sticking with six possible plants coming from these large pvc pipes that I had cut into 13 inch sections.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/007-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/007-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"PVC pipe sections used for planting spinach seeds.\" class=\"wp-image-2522\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/007-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/007-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/007-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/007-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/007-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/007-700x467.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><p>My lettuce is nothing special and I just planted them in normal pots and placed them underneath some fluorescent lights at the moment. I decided on four pots of lettuce including dynamite, white paris, burgundy, and igloo. Four plants is enough to possibly produce a very decent crop for the spring and hopefully the beginning of summer as well.<\/p>\n\n<p>The next phase of planting will be my flowers that I grow every season. This year I decided to by alyssum and dill seeds in bulk instead of very small packets from the store.
