Bean and Carrot Sprouting Along With Transplanting Eggplants and Cucumbers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week has been kind of slow mainly because of the rain we have been receiving which is greatly needed.\u00a0 When July comes along their will usually be none or very little rain.\u00a0 I like to take advantage of this type of weather to take a slow rest because once the sun comes out the weeds will start growing throughout the entire garden.<\/p>\n<p>Before the rain came I wanted to get my eggplants into the ground so that they can easily take advantage of this rain that they need.\u00a0 I actually planted them much later than last year, but last year I did not have any transplants.\u00a0 I had planted them in the garden from seed, which is why I did not get much fruit.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-152.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-318\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-152-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Eggplant Transplanted\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-152-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-152.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Along with eggplants I also placed my cucumbers into the garden as well.\u00a0 Last year I had a large harvest of cucumbers and I began eating them every day which was good but eventually became boring.\u00a0 Hopefully this year I will get the same amount and maybe try storing them somehow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-099.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-319\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-099-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Transplanted Cucumbers\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-099-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-099.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some more good news that I received this week is my pole beans are starting to get through the soil.\u00a0 They are sprouting which means good news because if they didn&#8217;t sprout I would have two rows that have no plants in them.\u00a0 I would then have to rely on the bush beans that do not produce as much as pole beans.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-005.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-320\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-005-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Pole Bean Sprouting\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-005-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-005.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see from the picture they sprout exactly like bush beans and need plenty of water during the hot summer months.\u00a0 With this rain that will be coming tonight and tomorrow can benefit them greatly and I can easily see vibrant plants.\u00a0 Once a sunny day comes along it will be easier to see how healthy they are.<\/p>\n<p>Not only are pole beans sprouting, but I was able to get a picture of a very small carrot sprout beginning to grow as well.\u00a0 As you know carrot seeds are extremely small and the sprout is even tougher to see if you don&#8217;t know what you are looking for.\u00a0 Most of the time I wait an extra week or so until it has a couple of leaves before I begin removing weeds which can easily out-compete carrot roots.\u00a0 Take a look below.<\/p>\n<p>The carrot sprout is the one in the middle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-031.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-321\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-031-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Picture-2-031.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see there are only two leaves, but once they have a couple of more I will take another picture and I will be sure whether or not it is a carrot sprout.<\/p>\n<p>While I was at it I also planted another five feet of corn and this leaves me with only one more planting and I will then be finished with the
