May Be Coming Soon To My Garden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was only a couple of days ago that the tassels began to grow from my corn and it looked like that I was going to get some corn in the near future.\u00a0 I went outside today and discovered that there were some silks appearing from one of the corn stalks.\u00a0 This was the first sign that I could be getting corn in a week or so.<\/p>\n<p>Granted this was only one corn stalk, but it signaled that my corn was growing correctly and I have been doing something right.\u00a0 I would be very surprised if this was the only stalk that began growing ears of corn.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Tassels are very easy to spot and once they begin to release their pollen you can then search for silks that will be at the beginning stages of corn growth.\u00a0 Here is what the tassels look like:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-1-022.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-490\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-1-022-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Corn Tassels\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-1-022-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-1-022.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are the silks that need the pollen in order to produce a mature ear of corn.\u00a0 Most corn plants can have up to three ears of corn in a season.\u00a0 This one here is producing two silks which could possibly mean two ears of corn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-0671.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-499\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-0671-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Corn Silks #1\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is another one on the same stalk.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-071.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-500\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-071-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Corn Silk #2\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-071-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-071.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Soon the other corn stalks will begin to produce tassels and silks and then eventually ears of corn that will hopefully be sweet as all corn should be.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-046.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-501\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-046-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"All My Corn 7-30-2014\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-046-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-046.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Remember that <a title=\"Second Day of Planting Seeds Outside\" href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/second-day-planting-seeds-outside\/\">I planted corn at different times<\/a> and that is why that they are not at the same height as the first ones that I planted.\u00a0 The first one is in the back and the last are in the foreground.<\/p>\n<p>Had a couple more zucchinis to add to my harvest today as well.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t seem like that they are letting up because they are continually growing zucchinis every time I look at the plants.\u00a0 I am not complaining because last year I got a really bad harvest.\u00a0 This year is making up from last season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-063.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-502\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-063-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Two More Zucchinis 7-30-2014\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-063-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-063.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Picked another cucumber today as well which was one that I didn&#8217;t see because it was hiding underneath a leaf.\u00a0 This happens sometimes, but luckily I caught it before it began to rot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-016.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-503\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-016-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Second Cucumber 7-30-2014\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-016-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-016.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one was bigger than the first one that I picked so they are getting bigger and more are coming along from other plants that I have.\u00a0 This is a fair size so I am pretty happy with that.\u00a0 As long as they are sweeter than what you find in the store I have succeeded.<\/p>\n<p>Still waiting for pole beans to begin growing their fruit and I know it is just a matter of time before they begin producing all at one time.\u00a0 Take a look for yourself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-036.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-036-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-036.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The tallest sunflower that I have is only about seven and a half feet.\u00a0 It was one that happened to grow from last year.\u00a0 I guess a seed fell and when the weather got warm it germinated.\u00a0 This happens often especially when you don&#8217;t clean up after the year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-0471.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-505\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-0471-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Seven Foot Sunflower\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-0471-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Picture-2-0471.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If I was to take care of it better I am sure that it would have grown at least a couple more feet.\u00a0 This shows that
