Eggplant, and Corn on The Way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past weekend we received some well needed rain.\u00a0 This meant that Saturday and Sunday were very slow gardening days.\u00a0 The only thing I did was pick some blueberries during a short period of no rain.\u00a0 I collected as many berries as I could before it started to pour.\u00a0 I was able to grab about two and a half pounds.\u00a0 This has been the average for this season.<\/p>\n<p>Today was the first time that I went outside to check my garden before the storms hit this weekend.\u00a0 My pole beans are growing great and I should be getting a harvest from them any time now.\u00a0 I picked some more bush beans which are probably going to be the last that I receive from them.\u00a0 Now it is up to the pole ones to pick up the slack.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-048.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-521\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-048-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Pole Beans\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-048-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-048.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-049.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" tomatoes today.\u00a0 These particular types are able to ripen much quicker than the larger steakhouse and Roma ones that I have growing.\u00a0 The good news is that these others are now starting to turn red.\u00a0 I have a couple of steakhouse tomatoes that will be ready this week as long as they get plenty of sun.<\/p>\n<p>Take a look at the size of these cherry tomatoes!\u00a0 These are some of the biggest ones that I have ever grown.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-031.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-518\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-031-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Two Large Cherry Tomatoes\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-031-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-031.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also am getting a few more vegetables and fruits within the garden.\u00a0 A cantaloupe is starting to grow and it is in the early stage which means that it doesn&#8217;t look anything like what you see in the store.\u00a0 It starts out green with fuzzy hair all over it.\u00a0 It only creates the webbing around the fruit when it stops growing and begins turning the inside orange and sweet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-519\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-001-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"First Cantaloupe for 2014\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-001-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-001.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also checked my eggplant plants and found that I had one growing for quite a while.\u00a0 It was kind of hidden and I didn&#8217;t think they would come this early.\u00a0 The good news is that this one is getting really big and we are only in the middle of the season.\u00a0 It should get quite bigger with the good weather it has been getting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-076.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-520\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-076-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"First Eggplant\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-076-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-076.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My other eggplant plants are not getting any fruit, but they are producing flowers so I am optimistic that I will be getting more of these vegetables in the future.\u00a0 It just may take some time.<\/p>\n<p>My corn over the weekend has been very busy in producing many tassels, silks, and ears.\u00a0 In just a couple of days they are on their way to producing sweet and delicious ears that I will enjoy eating.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-053.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-523\" 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-2-059.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" starting to come in and will be getting bigger hopefully.\u00a0 Once they are pollinated the corn will start to immediately grow at a pretty fast rate.\u00a0 This is when they need the most amount of
