First Corn Harvest of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The day has finally came where I harvested the corn at the right time and now can enjoy there summer taste.\u00a0 I had checked them during the week and waited until they were just right.\u00a0 It happened to be yesterday where I went outside and started picking all the ears that were ripe and ready for the dinner table.<\/p>\n<p>I collected 24 ears yesterday and they weighed about 15 pounds in total which is I think is great for the first corn crop of the season.\u00a0 Some of them had some caterpillars that were eating the kernels, but other than that there was no serious damage which is also a good thing to hear.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Some pictures of the corn I gathered yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-073.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-596\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-073-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"First Corn Crop\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-073-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-073.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Below there are only 18 ears of corn because the other six are being cooked at the time for consumption.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-124.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-597\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-124-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Corn Stacked\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-124-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-124.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They were very delicious ears and enjoyed every minute of it.\u00a0 They were sweet and tender which are the two basic parts you always look to have when eating corn on the cob.<\/p>\n<p>I did pick up another cucumber and zucchini as well.\u00a0 This cucumber was <a title=\"Large Cucumbers and Steakhouse Tomato\" href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/large-cucumbers-steakhouse-tomato\/\">larger than the previous one<\/a> that I had and this one weighed about one and a half pounds.\u00a0 It was one that had been hiding underneath some leaves and I had saw it a couple days ago and meant to pick it up, but fortunately I forgot.\u00a0 When I harvested it yesterday it had grown much bigger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-109.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-598\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-109-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Largest Cucumber\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-109-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-109.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also have been harvesting Roma tomatoes, but they haven&#8217;t been ripe.\u00a0 I have been picking them early and placing them on the windowsill to fully ripen.\u00a0 Since they will be used primarily for sauce I don&#8217;t mind if I pick them early.<\/p>\n<p>Soon I will be picking the first eggplant of the season.\u00a0 It is almost ripe and it has stopped growing which means that in a few days or so it will be a perfect time to harvest it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-1531.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-599\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-1531-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Eggplant\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-1531-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-1531.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also discovered that one of my eggplant plants has multiple fruits.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t notice this until just a couple of days ago.\u00a0 It was definitely a surprise to me and I will have to make sure that they all grow to the appropriate size with the best care I can give it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-156.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-600\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-156-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Several Eggplants on one Bush\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-156-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Picture-1-156.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the above picture you can see at least four.\u00a0 There is a fifth one that I couldn&#8217;t get in the picture, but I will let you know what happens with all of them.<\/p>\n<p>My cantaloupe is also coming along and it is now starting to create the webbing around the fruit which means that it has reached its full size.\u00a0 This one is smaller than I would like, but I will have to make sure that I take care of them better next season.\u00a0 As long as it is juicy and sweet it doesn&#8217;t matter what the
