{"id":671,"date":"2014-10-12T16:22:52","date_gmt":"2014-10-12T20:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/?p=671"},"modified":"2014-10-12T16:22:52","modified_gmt":"2014-10-12T20:22:52","slug":"three-eggplants-harvested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/three-eggplants-harvested\/","title":{"rendered":"Three More Eggplants Harvested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another slow week for gardening and with the weather getting cooler plants are starting to whither and die.\u00a0 Yesterday we had plenty of rain that helped in the growth of my cabbage, celery, and pole beans that are continuing to produce flowers.<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t think pole beans would last this long, but I am not complaining because I love beans.\u00a0 Today I picked up three more eggplants that had showed signs of ripeness when I took a look at them.\u00a0 Now that I have picked three today I only have one left that is still in the garden.\u00a0 That one will be harvested soon with some more good weather.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>These eggplants were a good size and weighed in total four and a half pounds.\u00a0 Not as big as the <a title=\"Pole Beans and Another Eggplant Harvested\" href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/pole-beans-eggplant-harvested\/\">previous two<\/a>, but still good enough to make a meal out of each one.\u00a0 That is all that I am looking for when I grow these unique vegetables and getting a meal out each eggplant is what I aim to accomplish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-672\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-002-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Three Eggplants\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-002-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-002.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They are each pretty much equal size a weighed about the same as well.<\/p>\n<p>I am also continuing to see flowers coming from my pole beans during this month as well.\u00a0 This means that I should have more pole beans to pick real soon and I will probably pick more tomorrow giving them a little bit more time to get as big as they can.<\/p>\n<p>I went outside today and saw that many of them had reached their peak and I was debating whether or not I should harvest them today, but instead I harvested my eggplants and I will leave my pole beans for tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-674\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-021-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Pole Bean Flowers\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-021-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-021.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My cabbage plants are probably growing the best because they do not like the warm weather and thrive in much cooler fall or early spring temperatures.\u00a0 It is starting to feel like fall and because of that the cabbage leaves are starting to get bigger.<\/p>\n<p>I also placed a layer of mulch that should have helped during this past week with all the rain they received.\u00a0 It should have retained much of the water and will help out the plants for the remaining season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-027.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-675\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-027-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Cabbage Plant\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-027-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Picture-1-027.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another slow week for gardening and with the weather getting cooler plants are starting to whither and die.\u00a0 Yesterday we had plenty of rain that helped in the growth of my cabbage, celery, and pole beans that are continuing to produce flowers.
