of Season With Celery and Carrots Harvested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the last things that I needed to do was wait for the day before Thanksgiving to dig up all the carrots that had grown this season.\u00a0 I usually pick them the day before so that we can have fresh carrots for dinner.\u00a0 Unfortunately it had rained the day before so I wasn&#8217;t able to pick them from the soil.\u00a0 I had to wait until the day of in order to dig them up.\u00a0 The good news is that I was able to have them for dinner that day once they were washed and then cooked.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I collected about 50 carrots that weighed about 33 pounds and was a good harvest even though I had thought that I might not get as many due to a couple of factors that occurred during the summer.\u00a0 I was definitely happy with the amount that I collected with just a <a title=\"Second Day of Planting Seeds Outside\" href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/second-day-planting-seeds-outside\/\">thirty foot row of seeds<\/a> I planted in the beginning of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a look at the carrots that I dug up just a couple of days ago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-025.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-700\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-025-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Pile of Carrots\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-025-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-025.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can see that they were about average size.\u00a0 I had a couple that were a little bit bigger and weighed over two pounds each.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-020.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-701\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-020-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Average Sized Carrots\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-020-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-020.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Below are the carrots that each weighed over two pounds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-037.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-702\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-037-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Two Pound Carrots\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-037-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-2-037.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before I picked out my carrots I was able to get my celery harvested as well.\u00a0 This happened about a week earlier and was the first time harvesting this vegetable.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t plant much since this was the first time planting them in the garden, but I received six and a half pounds of celery.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-1-021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-703\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-1-021-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Celery Plants\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-1-021-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-1-021.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These are the celery plants just before harvesting and they looked good throughout the entire season despite not many of the seeds grew in the garden.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the final product once I dug them up and cut the roots off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-1-050.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-704\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-1-050-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Celery Stalks\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-1-050-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Picture-1-050.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These two vegetables basically marked the end of the gardening season because there is nothing left in the soil.\u00a0 Only some small cabbage and a few flowers are all that is left in the garden.\u00a0 The ground is beginning to freeze and snow has begun to fall in the past couple of weeks.\u00a0 Although it was just a dusting it still is a sign of colder temperatures ahead.<\/p>\n<p>I will soon be <a title=\"Eric's Organic Garden\" href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/\">writing articles on my homepage<\/a> in the next few weeks hopefully.\u00a0 These will be more detailed in how to grow many fruits and vegetables in your own garden.\u00a0 Make sure to check back when the season starts up again because I
