The first planting of the year that is placed on the windowsill is alyssum and dill.\u00a0 These two plants are great for the garden and they do not need that much attention.\u00a0 I can easily place them in between rows attracting beneficial insects including bees to help my garden plants.<\/p>\n
I plant them in large clear containers because they can easily grow next to each other without many problems.\u00a0 They continually will produce flowers throughout the year as long as they get enough water.\u00a0 This makes for a good food source for many types of insects that are helpful to any organic garden.<\/p>\n
Right now it is basically a waiting game because their is not much to do with these flowers before they start sprouting.\u00a0 Water them everyday and if the sun is out the soil will dry quicker which can mean multiple waterings with a simple spray bottle.<\/p>\n
The spinach has not yet sprouted, but I am not worried because they can take some time to finally show signs of life.\u00a0 They have hard shells and it can take a while for them to crack open.<\/p>\n
I also give them a good spray each day because the soil can dry just as quickly.\u00a0 They need to have moist soil throughout their lifespan as well as when they are finally placed outside.<\/p>\n
I will probably start growing other plants such as sunflowers, calendula, cosmos, and amaranthus either this week or during the weekend.\u00a0 They too need to get a head start and once that is done I will most likely begin fruits and vegetables.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
