Corn, Carrots, and Bean Seeds in Garden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now temperatures are in the high 70&#8217;s and the month of May is coming to an end I thought now would be a great time to start planting bean, corn, and carrot seeds into the garden.\u00a0 I could have planted them earlier in the month, but I wanted to get most of my transplants into the ground first before growing these seeds.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that these plants do not need that much time to mature except for maybe corn.\u00a0 Carrots do not need that much time to complete their roots and pole beans once they start getting flowers they are pretty much all set for the season.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/first-outdoor-planting\/\">Similar to last season<\/a> I am going to grow corn in several sections in order to harvest them at different times instead of all at once.\u00a0 Instead of doing five sections this season I am thinking about just doing only three or four.\u00a0 I am leaning towards three because today I just planted seeds in a third of the row.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-117.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-867\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-117-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"First Section of Corn Planted\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-117-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-117.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I will plant corn two more times in five day intervals.\u00a0 Today is day one for corn so that means I will start planting the next section this coming weekend.\u00a0 The last section will then be planted probably the following week.<\/p>\n<p>Beans and carrots are both planted the same with the entire row planted.\u00a0 Carrots are not harvested until November and picking pole beans at the same time doesn&#8217;t matter as it does with corn.\u00a0 Beans can easily be stored for the Winter months as well as carrots.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-099.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-868\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-099-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Pole Beans Planted\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-099-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-099.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I placed rows on both sides of the bean trellis in order to maximize the space that I have.\u00a0 Unfortunately my perennial alyssum kind of got in the way of the row as you can see in the photo.\u00a0 This shouldn&#8217;t affect my beans at all.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-112.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-869\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-112-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Carrots and Corn Planted\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here you can see both my corn and carrot rows.\u00a0 The row farthest to the left is where I planted my carrot seeds.\u00a0 You can see that the corn rows are not fully planted and only the first section is completed.<\/p>\n<p>I also picked up some more spinach this weekend because they were getting some really large leaves.\u00a0 I think this years spinach harvest has been quite good especially in terms of size and quality.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-015.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-870\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-015-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Supersized Spinach Leaf\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-015-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-015.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I collected 56 leaves and they weighed up to four pounds!\u00a0 There were not many leaves, but they were incredibly large and weighed more than I thought they would.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-042.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-871\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-042-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"One Bucket of Spinach Collected\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-042-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Picture-1-042.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is just one of the containers I used to collect my spinach leaves.\u00a0 I actually filled up two of them this weekend with all the leaves that I picked.\u00a0 Hopefully soon I will start picking my lettuce leaves.<\/p>\n<!--
