Turning Red and Melons Getting Bigger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of things have been happening in the garden and I wanted to take a look at some of the fruits that are beginning to grow and get much bigger.\u00a0 This includes both cantaloupes and the one watermelon that is thriving quite well.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the vines on my cantaloupe plants actually have two melons growing and they were covered by the leaves and I happen to miss them when I was working with my plants.\u00a0 Hopefully they will not take too much nutrients from each other making them smaller than they should.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As of now I have six cantaloupes and one watermelon.\u00a0 Six cantaloupes are coming from four plants which means two plants are growing multiple melons.\u00a0 I will have to give those two plants a little bit more nutrients and fertilizer to compensate for the multiple melons.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-0021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-978\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-0021-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"First Cantaloupe\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-0021-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-0021.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The above is just the first cantaloupe that started growing about a week or two ago.\u00a0 So far every day it has been getting bigger which is a great sign.<\/p>\n<p>Here is another cantaloupe on the same plant as the one in the previous picture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-101.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-979\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-101-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Cantaloupe on Same Plant\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is relatively about the same size and probably formed about the same day or around the same time as the other one.\u00a0 This plant will need extra nutrients over the next month in order to get both of them to a good size.\u00a0 I will try my best to feed both melons.\u00a0 These are just two of the cantaloupes that are growing in the garden.<\/p>\n<p>I also have a watermelon that is in its beginning stages of growth.\u00a0 It is crucial that I give them exactly what it needs because this is when the plant becomes a heavy feeder and needs all the nutrients possible to feed the melon.<\/p>\n<p>This is when the watermelon first started growing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-0261.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-981\" 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a picture of the watermelon that I took this morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-167.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-982\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-167-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Watermelon Update 7-22-2015\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So the watermelon has been growing everyday which is the best sign that you can get from any fruit or vegetable.\u00a0 Once it stops growing that will be the final size that I will be able to pick it.\u00a0 I will not harvest when it stops growing because if I do it will not be ripe and the inside will be mostly green instead of red.<\/p>\n<p>I have another watermelon plant, but it was grown much later and it will take another few weeks before it starts producing a fruit or melon of its own.<\/p>\n<p>I also have tomatoes ripening including some cherry and a Roma one.\u00a0 I noticed it yesterday when I was watering my plants and I happened to take a look at one of the Roma tomatoes and saw that it was beginning to turn red.\u00a0 It was not that noticeable, but when I checked it today I could definitely tell that it was starting to ripen.<\/p>\n<p>This is the picture I took yesterday of the tomato.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-085.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-983\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-085-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Slight Ripening of Tomato\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see it is not that noticeable that it is starting to ripen.\u00a0 It has a slight tint that you can see which tells me that it is ripening.\u00a0 Here is a picture of that same tomato that I took this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><a 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now you can tell that my tomatoes are ripening from this photo.\u00a0 Not all my tomatoes are turning red, but this is the first one of the season and within a couple of weeks most of them will be this color.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to start picking tomatoes because this is the favorite time of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Peppers are beginning to grow and I am getting one that might be harvested sometime this week or next week.<\/p>\n<p><a
