Beans: The Next Vegetable to be Harvested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went through the entire garden today and wanted to see if there were any other fruits or vegetables that might be ready for a small harvest.\u00a0 I have been noticing that some of my tomatoes were beginning to ripen and they might soon be harvested in a week or less.<\/p>\n<p>I also have onions that will probably be dug out of the ground and totes real soon.\u00a0 Right now I am reaching the climax or busiest part of the garden season where many harvests will be coming at the same time.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I actually am thinking about picking pole beans real soon because they have reached the perfect size for harvesting.\u00a0 Larger beans are better and I always wait until they get as big as possible before they turn yellow and dry out.\u00a0 Just before this happens is the perfect time for harvesting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-148.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-989\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-148-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Pole Beans Ready for Harvesting\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-148-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-148.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is about the average size of pole beans that I usually end up picking each year.\u00a0 The vines have been growing quite well and with many more flowers I am sure to get plenty of beans for the season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-159.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-990\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-159-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Pole Bean Flowers\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-159-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-159.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can see that the vines are producing more flowers which means more beans potentially.\u00a0 As long as they keep producing and flourishing I will be busy picking these vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>I also mentioned that my onions are just about ready to be picked out of the ground now that the stems have fallen over.\u00a0 This is the first sign that they are done for the year and need to be removed from the soil.\u00a0 The ones in my totes have all fallen over while the ones in the garden are not quite done.\u00a0 Many of them have fallen, but there are some that are still standing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-127.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-991\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-127-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Onion Stems Fallen Over\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-127-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-127.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I could probably pick them this weekend at the same time that I pick my pole beans.\u00a0 I will most likely dig them out either today or tomorrow.\u00a0 The ones in the garden I will pick out the ones that have fell over and the ones that are still standing I will wait a little bit longer before I remove them from the soil.<\/p>\n<p>Peppers are on the way and most of my plants are producing flowers which will lead to peppers that I can use for various foods.\u00a0 I like using them for my tomato sauce that I make each year.\u00a0 Having everything in tomato sauce come from the garden is a great way to utilize your vegetables.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-141.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-992\" src=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-141-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Pepper #1\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-141-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/ericsorganicgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Picture-1-141.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My corn will probably take another couple of weeks before I see signs of production.\u00a0 They are getting tall and they should soon be producing tassels and then silks which is the first sign that corn will be coming soon.\u00a0 Right now they have not produced either, but it is still early in the season.\u00a0 As long as I keep watering them everyday providing them with the water they need they will eventually begin to grow corn on the cob.<\/p>\n<p>My fall plants are doing well at the moment and will be placing them in the garden in a few weeks.\u00a0 I planted them a little bit later than I would have liked, but I think they still will make out and have enough time to get some broccoli and cabbage heads
