The Pole Bean Harvest Has Begun
Last updated onLike I sad previously I was going to pick pole beans today. They were a good size for the most part and were about a foot long. Some of them had become to large and those I will use for seeds next year. Since this particular variety is an heirloom I can save as many as I want and use them for the next growing season.
Besides picking pole beans I even gained some more tomatoes for my collection. They were mostly cherry tomatoes for the most part and one Roma that happened to be ready. This is usually what happens every season I get all the cherry tomatoes and then later get the bigger ones.
I collected three pounds of pole beans today which is a good amount just for the first of the season. I will be getting more later on once they get big enough to be harvested. I like large beans and I will not pick them too early. If they happen to get too big then I can always use them for seed saving. Either way they will get used and will not be wasted.
I also mentioned that I had some more cherry tomatoes for some great salads. These came from the plant that is providing all the larger cherry tomatoes that I have received this season. I never complain about the size of my fruit or vegetables as long as they have the taste that they are supposed to have.
I also happened to knock off a large Roma tomato while I was trying to tie it to a stake. It was a large tomato and it came off before it was able to turn red. The good news is that I can place it on a windowsill and let it turn red and then I will be able to use it. Check out the size of this Roma tomato.
I am definitely looking to pick my corn soon as they are producing nice looking ears. I will probably check them tomorrow by actually looking at the kernels that they are generating on the stalk. It only takes a couple of minutes to check a few of them and this way I will know if they are ready or not.
