Busy Gardening Year Coming this Season

Last updated on

I purchased most of my seeds at the beginning of the year back in January in order to get ahead and not have to worry about them now or during the springtime. There are a few things that I have not purchased such as bulbs which I will get on April 1 or somewhere near this date. I am also hoping to get some plants such as raspberries and maybe grapes to plant this year.

Although at the moment gardening is quite slow this is when I can take advantage of this slow part of the season to plant seeds indoors. This week is just for starting my flowers which are mainly for attracting bees and other insects. Today I finished planting both alyssum and dill.

Alyssum seed packets of Carpet of Snow and Royal Carpet.

I bought another bag of butterfly and hummingbird seeds which I plan on planting sometime this week and most likely during the weekend. These seeds will be grown in the windowsill instead of placing them under fluorescent lights.

Along with the seeds I have purchases I am also thinking about planting potatoes and getting them from the local garden center. I haven’t had success ordering them from a seed catalog and I think getting them locally will produce different results.

I will start with my spring crop very soon as well which I can place in some new trays I purchased for indoor planting. I am also going to plant my cabbage during the springtime rather than waiting for the fall to get them in the ground.

I normally plant them in pots first because they grow much better as transplants. My broccoli did good last season when planting them in the spring and they lasted all year. I will probably do this again because it produced good results.

I am hoping to be planting some new things this year and some different varieties of seeds that this season will be a busy one. I am definitely looking forward to this season and what new things may come from the garden.
