Digging Holes for Potatoes and Cleaning up Debris

Last updated on

Since receiving my potatoes yesterday I needed to clean up the garden and get some holes dug before tomorrow.  Luckily it only rained in the morning so I was able to clean up the garden, fix the net that surrounds the garden, and dig some holes for my potatoes.

I didn’t have time to make holes for my strawberry plants, but I did place them in a container of water to get them started.  From here I can place them in the garden or I could put them in large peat pots which would make it easier to transplant into the garden.

It would also be wise to put them in peat pots that way they can strengthen their roots and I could put them in the garden when the outside temperature is a little bit warmer.

Potatoes I am not worried about putting into the garden at this time.  Potatoes will be in the ground and the topsoil should protect them from any potential cold snaps or even a frost.  The soil is moist so I shouldn’t have to water too much at the moment.

Some good news about my plants that I have planted indoors is they are beginning to sprout.  It looks like those sunny days have been paying off.  I am getting some wildflowers and alyssum sprouting for now.  There is no dill, but I did plant them kind of recently.

Here are my alyssum sprouts.

Depending on what I do with my strawberry plants I may dig some holes for them tomorrow or make sure that I have enough and large enough peat pots for them to grow in for now.  I may wait a couple of days before putting them in the ground as well especially if the temperatures are real low.  Only time will tell at this point.
