Garden Harvest Winding Down

It is now September and with the fall season just around the corner my garden harvest is coming to a close for this year.  Cooler weather is in the near future and most of my plants have reached their peak or are calling it quits for the year.

Five out of six of the pumpkins I am growing have ripened to the point that I could pick them very soon.  I like to pick them later usually closer to the month of October rather than now.  Tomatoes are done for the most part with only a couple of plants that have a few tomatoes left to pick. July 28 Garden Progress Update

It has been a while since I last wrote a post on this blog and I thought it would be good to give you a quick update on what is happening so far.  I now have four pumpkins that are growing in the garden and I may have a fifth one coming soon.  I have been taking pictures of them so that I can easily see their progress over a short period of time.

As you know my zucchinis are coming in one after the other and I don’t see any sign of them slowing down.  Blueberries are starting to wind down and today I think I reached the peak of the blueberry season for this year.  Tomatoes are doing good and will be ripening very shortly as long as the warm weather holds up. First Green Bean Harvest of 2014

Today was a busy day with the harvesting of green beans, weeding both green beans and corn, and more blueberries to pick as well.  I will have to finish setting up my bean poles so that my pole beans can start climbing up instead of attaching itself to anything it can find.  That I will do tomorrow if the weather is any good.

Tomorrow there is a slight chance of thunderstorms throughout the day and I decided that it would be a good idea to start harvesting the vegetables and fruit that were ready.  This included my beans and more blueberries.  I collected about two pounds of beans from my bush plants and three pounds of berries. Garden Update: Peppers, Melon, and Another Row of Corn Planted

A couple days ago during a nice warm day I wanted to get in the garden another row of corn and some transplants that I wanted to get out of the way.  So far I have been adding a row of corn every five days and I only have about ten feet of planting space left.  Once I am done with the corn and all the seeds have sprouted I can then remove the bird netting that is protecting my seeds.

First Outdoor Planting

Today I planted the first seeds of bush beans and corn into the garden.  It was a cloudy day but it still was warm enough to get them into the ground.  I didn’t plant an entire row instead I just planted the first set of corn and with some extra room I planted some bush beans.

I wasn’t planning on growing bush beans because I wasn’t sure I would have extra room.  What I did was plant them at the end of where my pole beans are going to go because there is plenty of room in this area.  Basically where the pole beans end are where the bush beans will begin. (more…)
