First Green Bean Harvest of 2014

Last updated on

Today was a busy day with the harvesting of green beans, weeding both green beans and corn, and more blueberries to pick as well.  I will have to finish setting up my bean poles so that my pole beans can start climbing up instead of attaching itself to anything it can find.  That I will do tomorrow if the weather is any good.

Tomorrow there is a slight chance of thunderstorms throughout the day and I decided that it would be a good idea to start harvesting the vegetables and fruit that were ready.  This included my beans and more blueberries.  I collected about two pounds of beans from my bush plants and three pounds of berries.

Yesterday I also picked four more zucchinis as well.  I am starting to get backed up with the number of zucchinis that I have.  I am not able to eat them fast enough and when more vegetable and fruit start growing it will become even more difficult to eat them all.  The good news is that these vegetables can last quite a while because they are freshly picked and have a much longer shelf life.

Here you can take a look at the green beans and blueberries that were picked today.

First Green Bean Harvest 2014

These I picked only from my bush bean plants.  My pole beans are producing flowers right now so I should expect to see beans from them in a couple of weeks.

Third Blueberry Harvest

There are still plenty left, but I think this will be the most that I pick at one time this year.  Unfortunately this has been a poor year for blueberries.

I also have noticed a few pumpkins that might have been pollinated recently.  I have three that have flowers that opened up in the last couple of days.  I will not know if they have been pollinated until tomorrow or the day after.

First Possible Pumpkin

The pumpkin below is growing on the same vine as the one above.  If the pumpkin above was not pollinated then there is another one ready to open.  We will just have to wait and see what happens.

Only time will tell whether these have been pollinated or not.

I also found a cucumber that is growing and has been pollinated by a bee or several bees.  This is what a cucumber looks like when it begins to grow.

Peppers are also coming along as well.  At the moment I have only found one, but this is a good sign that they are begin to produce during the month of July.

Right now the garden is starting to produce and it will only get more productive over the next month.  Stay tuned for more updates on what is happening in the garden.
