New Seeds and Plants to Grow for 2017

It is the beginning of 2017 and it is time to start thinking about what seeds or plants you would like to grow.  This year I have some new seeds and plants that I ordered and am going to try out for the first time.

I decided on getting a few different seeds including snow peas, radishes, and two different varieties of lettuce.  I also am going to try celery again which I would like to have fresh rather than getting it from the store. (more…)

Transplanting and More Seeds into Rows

The past three days have been quite busy with my plants ready for the ground and seeds that need to be planted as well.  I wanted to get most of my plants in the ground by the weekend and right now I only have a few flowers and a couple squash plants left.

Tomorrow I should finish with all my plants including planting all the seeds needed for a successful garden.  I will be planting some extra seeds of zucchini and pumpkin. (more…)

Onions, Squash, and Some Herbs

Now that most of the cold weather is done for the season and actual Spring temperatures have arrived it is time to start planting onions.  Although there might be some cool days here and there this will not affect onions that much.

It only took about an hour to plant my onions in my large totes that I use each season.  This year I would continue growing them in totes and some in the garden.  This happened to work quite well last season and I still have some onions left from 2015. (more…)

Ordering Some New Seeds for 2016

Now that it is 2016 and the garden season will soon start in another month or so I thought it would be good to buy the seeds I needed for this new year.  I have a few new things that I plan on growing this season, but nothing that I can’t handle.

I will be saving some money this year from seeds that I have saved from the previous season.  I actually saved some amaranthus seeds that came from both the green and red varieties.  As always I saved at least one ear of corn that I left on the stalk to dry and then brought it inside once it was ready. 2015 and a New Set of Seeds

It is now another year and with the garden season coming here in the very near future it is time to start thinking about what to grow.  I try to begin each season by looking at what seeds were left from the season before and which ones I need to get right away.

First of all I always grow my spinach early in the season starting in February so these were something I need to get as soon as possible.  I get all my seeds at the same time in order to save money on shipping. (more…)
