The first phase of transplanting spring crops into the garden started earlier in the week with spinach, some lettuce, and a few Brassica plants. I still have a whole tray full of various plants (mostly lettuce) that I plan to get into the soil before the week is over. Radish and pea seeds have sprouted and I will start thinning them out very soon and possibly weeding them.

This past week it has been getting cooler and some cold fall temperatures should be arriving before the week is over. Fall temps are now here and it is time to slowly close down the garden. I still have fall plants such as broccoli, kale, celery, and brussel sprouts that I will continue to care for and harvest. I even have a few eggplants that will be picked very shortly. For the most part the gardening season is coming to an end for this year. (more…)
I haven’t harvested much this season at the moment, but there are many more things that are getting ready for harvest time. Tomatoes are producing flowers, beans are climbing the ropes, lettuce is flourishing, and broccoli is next on the list. It is almost the peak of garden season and in about a month I should be harvesting the bulk of the fruits of my labor. (more…)
So Far I have only harvested a couple of fruits and vegetables this season including strawberries which I discussed in a previous post and peas which I happened to harvest this afternoon. It was only a small harvest, but it is definitely enough for at least one meal. There are plenty of peas left on the plants that suggest that many more harvests are to come. (more…)

It was about time that I start planting some more seeds especially melons, eggplants, and peppers. These plants need to be started early with their long maturing process. I like to plant them before the month of April and the end of the month is right around the corner. (more…)
I just started removing my onions from the totes they grew in and I am now beginning to dry them out. The plants were beginning to fall over and this is the sign that it is time for them to be removed and placed in a hot sunny spot to dry out. (more…)
The very last summer plants that I harvest last are carrots. They have been in the ground the entire summer and most of the Fall. I like to leave them in the ground because the ground makes for a good storage area.
I have been picking some cabbage lately and a few more pieces of broccoli. All I have left are a couple of cabbage plants and whatever broccoli I get from now until the ground freezes. (more…)
Just recently we received a small to light frost that ended the season for most of my summer plants. I did have only a few harvests of the last peppers and one eggplant. Now that we have had many consecutive days of cold weather the plants are now gone except for cabbage, broccoli, and kale. (more…)
It looks like my fall crops are doing quite well now that I have picked several kale leaves and heads of broccoli. I only started harvesting broccoli heads a few days ago, but I have been picking kale leaves for a couple of weeks. Today will be the third harvest of kale for the season. (more…)
