Transplanting and More Seeds into Rows

The past three days have been quite busy with my plants ready for the ground and seeds that need to be planted as well.  I wanted to get most of my plants in the ground by the weekend and right now I only have a few flowers and a couple squash plants left.

Tomorrow I should finish with all my plants including planting all the seeds needed for a successful garden.  I will be planting some extra seeds of zucchini and pumpkin. (more…)

Placing Lettuce in the Garden with Some Seed Planting

Now that the entire garden has been tilled I wanted to get as much into the ground as possible.  This includes seeds such as corn and beans that need to be planted before June.  I also got most of my flowers into the ground which is another important element of my garden.

I still have plants that I have not had the chance to place in the garden, but most of these are just transplants of fruits and vegetables.  I will hope to finish them sometime this week. (more…)

Spinach Harvesting and Tilling Garden

It has been a little while since my last post, but I promise that I will not go that long without writing an update again.  This month is getting a little busy and being behind at least a couple weeks I will have to get my garden going as quickly as possible.

I first started with picking spinach leaves at the beginning of the week with most of my plants producing large leaves.  This season I wanted to grow them longer before I started cutting the leaves and it definitely was worth it. (more…)

Update on All Indoor and Outdoor Plants

It’s been awhile since I wrote a post here, but it has been quite busy around here and I want to share with you what has been going on with my garden plants, plants outside, and indoor ones as well.

So far not all of my plants have been outside, but most of my flowers are enjoying the fresh cool air.  Yes it is still a little bit cool which is great for my spinach and onions. (more…)

Update on Plant Progress So Far

I haven’t written a post in a little while and I thought I would give you an update on the progress of most of my plants as of today.  Some good news is that the weather is getting warmer and the sun is staying out later which is great for all my plants including the ones in the ground.

I have been placing my plants in containers outside to get them accustomed to the temperature differences.  This is the hardening process that can take a good couple of weeks.  From there I will be putting them in the ground. (more…)

Onions, Squash, and Some Herbs

Now that most of the cold weather is done for the season and actual Spring temperatures have arrived it is time to start planting onions.  Although there might be some cool days here and there this will not affect onions that much.

It only took about an hour to plant my onions in my large totes that I use each season.  This year I would continue growing them in totes and some in the garden.  This happened to work quite well last season and I still have some onions left from 2015. (more…)

Finally My Spinach Plants are in the Ground

The weather lately has been quite crazy with some warm days last week and then a cold blast the past couple of days.  We even had a snow storm this past week and that definitely interrupted the process of getting my spinach plants into the ground.

It actually got so cold that the ground refroze and I couldn’t do anything even though I had tilled part of the garden the week before.  I was hoping to get my spinach plants transplanted by this past weekend, but because of the cold and rain I was unable to do that. (more…)

First Partial Tilling of the Season

Like every season I always do a partial tilling for my cold weather plants like spinach and lettuce.  I will do a full tilling later on in the season around May or late April depending on the weather.

Today was windy but still warm enough to get some work done in the garden.  I am hoping to plant all or the majority of my spinach tomorrow if I have enough time.  I have about 22 plants and that should take only a couple of hours to complete. (more…)

Indoor Planting of Several Fruits and Vegetables

I have a few things to tell you about that has been happening today.  First off my spinach is staying outside longer and longer and by tomorrow they will be outside for the entire day and night.  This will be a relief because I can soon look forward to finally plant them in the ground.

On another note I have some more seeds starting to sprout and these were the last two that I thought would take a little bit longer to begin with.  Three of my watermelons are showing signs of life and the Queen Anne’s lace has several coming up from the soil. (more…)

Getting Tomato Seeds Into Pots

Today is the day when I start planting all my tomato seeds indoors and placing them under lights.  So far I have planted my leafy plants such as lettuce and spinach.  I also have planted some of the more important flowers indoors and now it is time for the first fruit of the season.

This is when the season starts to get a little bit busier with many plants growing inside.  Once I plant spinach outside I can then grow some more indoors under the lights that were used on my spinach plants.  I will probably be planting some more fruits and vegetables under those lights. (more…)
