It was a busy day today with many transplants going into the garden including alyssum, amaranthus, calendula, marigolds, statice, cosmos, queen Anne’s lace, wildflowers, and even corn flowers. I also had a busy day Thursday picking all the lettuce that I could. (more…)
Now it is about time to start planting more flowers using small to medium sized pots. I have used large plastic containers for alyssum, dill, and wildflowers. These next flower seeds can be placed into smaller pots for individual growing. (more…)
It’s been awhile since I wrote a post here, but it has been quite busy around here and I want to share with you what has been going on with my garden plants, plants outside, and indoor ones as well.
So far not all of my plants have been outside, but most of my flowers are enjoying the fresh cool air. Yes it is still a little bit cool which is great for my spinach and onions. (more…)
Just wanted to write a short post on how my plants are doing and some of the many seeds, flowers, and plants beginning to sprout. I have been watching my spinach closely along with the weather, because it will soon be time to place them in the ground.
With some of the warm weather we have been getting this month I have been putting my spinach plants outdoors getting them ready to be planted into the ground. This week has been quite cloudy and they have not been able to take advantage of the sun or lack thereof. (more…)
Today was probably the busiest out of the entire year for gardening. I planted some more flowers that I needed to get completed and I am planting them a little big sooner than last year. It is only a week earlier, but every day helps in getting a good head start.
I decided on growing five different flowers today and they are all going on the windowsill instead of fluorescent light. Most of the flowers I used large plastic pots while only one I decided on planted them in shallow peat pots. (more…)
This week has been quite interesting with all the sprouting of many of my seeds that were grown this past month. I am finally seeing spinach beginning to grow and it only took the entire month of March to do so. It would be better if they started sprouting a week or two ago, but it is better late than never.
Most of my flowers have began sprouting including sunflowers, calendula, Queen Anne’s lace, amaranthus, cosmos, dill, alyssum, and much more. Both lettuce types have began sprouting as well. (more…)
Today I planted the first seeds of bush beans and corn into the garden. It was a cloudy day but it still was warm enough to get them into the ground. I didn’t plant an entire row instead I just planted the first set of corn and with some extra room I planted some bush beans.
I wasn’t planning on growing bush beans because I wasn’t sure I would have extra room. What I did was plant them at the end of where my pole beans are going to go because there is plenty of room in this area. Basically where the pole beans end are where the bush beans will begin. (more…)
I want to share with you some of the progress that I have been having with my plants and some that I have added in order to maximize my time.
So far my plants are doing really good and it will soon be time to leave them out overnight and then into the garden soil they will go soon after. Right now during warm days I have been placing them outside on a table that can hold much of my early plantings.
I also added some more flowers to addition to the ones that I started growing a month ago. Alyssum is one of those flowers that I love to grow as much as possible because of the numerous beneficial insects it attracts. Bees love them lady beetles, flower flies, hover flies, and so much more. (more…)
It’s time to start growing more flowers that you need during the garden season including more vegetables as well. I unfortunately ran out of room on the windowsill and I had to utilize a simple fluorescent light – which you can purchase at any hardware store – to get these plants up and flourishing.
The good news is that many of your plants will be ready when spring time comes around and all you will have to do is transplant them into the garden. There are some plants which you cannot transplant including carrots, corn, beans, etc. You should grow as many plants as you can before hand to have a better harvest.
Today I decided to grow some flowers and vegetables. There were some flowers that I was not able to get to previously, but they can always be planted directly outdoors if I had ran out of room inside. (more…)
