Getting the Most Lettuce Leaves Harvested

Last updated on

It was a busy day today with many transplants going into the garden including alyssum, amaranthus, calendula, marigolds, statice, cosmos, queen Anne’s lace, wildflowers, and even corn flowers.  I also had a busy day Thursday picking all the lettuce that I could.

Since many of the lettuce plants were ready for picking I decided on harvesting as much as I could this week.  I was even able to pick a few of the Ruby glow leaves as well.  They were not that big, but I still have plenty of leaves left on the plants for more harvests.

In total there were 197 lettuce leaves that I had picked this past Thursday.  I plan on picking much more hopefully before they start to bolt or go to seed.  The weather is going to be too warm for them over the next couple of days, but I will keep an eye on them in case they decide to go to seed.

Today I decided that it was time to get most of my flowers into the garden.  I didn’t think I was going to do all of them, but I was on a roll and I didn’t want to stop planting and in the end I got the majority done.

There are still a couple of dill and alyssum plants that need to get in the garden, but I can do this during the coming week.  I was just glad that I got all the hard stuff done with.

At the moment the next thing to be harvested should be peas which I have planted in the beginning of April along with radishes.  The pods look like a good size and once I do some weeding around them I will start picking them.  I plan to do that sometime this week along with weeding the whole garden and thin out my corn.
