Doubling Up Planting Indoors

It is that time of the year when I need to rely on fluorescent lights to help in sprouting many of my seeds that I plant. With two 48 inch lights I can add many more seeds that I need to plant for a good head start to 2018. For now I am using just one light and have only planted flower seeds into small to medium sized plastic containers. (more…)

First Partial Tilling of the Season

Like every season I always do a partial tilling for my cold weather plants like spinach and lettuce.  I will do a full tilling later on in the season around May or late April depending on the weather.

Today was windy but still warm enough to get some work done in the garden.  I am hoping to plant all or the majority of my spinach tomorrow if I have enough time.  I have about 22 plants and that should take only a couple of hours to complete. (more…)

Last of the Spinach Transplanted to Garden

It is still not time to plant them in the ground, but placing them outside is what I have been doing the past couple of weeks.  When the time comes they will be ready to make the transition into the ground with ease. (more…)

More Cucumbers and Flowers Planted

I had planted cucumbers about a couple of weeks ago into small black pots that would be perfect for them.  Unfortunately I only was able to plant three pots of them.  Today I decided to use the spare fluorescent light used for the spinach and plant some more cucumbers.

The spinach plants have been hardening outside for the past few weeks and they will not need any more fluorescent light and can now rely on the sun.  This extra one was used to plant cucumbers and more flowers. (more…)
