Update on All Indoor and Outdoor Plants

It’s been awhile since I wrote a post here, but it has been quite busy around here and I want to share with you what has been going on with my garden plants, plants outside, and indoor ones as well.

So far not all of my plants have been outside, but most of my flowers are enjoying the fresh cool air.  Yes it is still a little bit cool which is great for my spinach and onions. (more…)

Indoor Planting of Several Fruits and Vegetables

I have a few things to tell you about that has been happening today.  First off my spinach is staying outside longer and longer and by tomorrow they will be outside for the entire day and night.  This will be a relief because I can soon look forward to finally plant them in the ground.

On another note I have some more seeds starting to sprout and these were the last two that I thought would take a little bit longer to begin with.  Three of my watermelons are showing signs of life and the Queen Anne’s lace has several coming up from the soil. (more…)

Peppers, Broccoli, Eggplants, and Plenty of Rain

It has been quite a while since I wrote a post on this blog.  It has been raining this entire week and there was nothing really to do in the garden except harvesting some peppers when it did stop raining for an hour or two.

I did manage to pick some peppers before all of this rain started and I got the largest harvest for the season.  I did not have time to pick some more beans, but with the cool weather they seem to no longer be growing flowers for more beans.  The ones that are out there I might just use for seeds for next year. (more…)

Eggplants Picked and Corn Stalks Removed

Now it is time for my eggplants to begin ripening and I should be picking many more of them in the near future.  I only picked two of them so far, but I still have at least five more growing on six different plants.  Some of them have only flowers while others have either one fruit or multiple eggplants.

The bigger eggplant weighed one and a half pounds and the smaller vegetable one pound.  This is an average size for eggplants and I can still make a good size eggplant Parmesan with these two vegetables. (more…)

Two Bowls Overflowing with Pole Beans

Just a quick post today about some of the vegetables I collected this past week.  The last post I discussed about some beans that I collected which weighed about nine pounds.  This week I actually was able to pick many more than the previous harvest.

I was actually surprised there were much more than before.  I didn’t make any record, but still 13 pounds is pretty good for one harvest.  It was so much that I overfilled two bowls just to get them all in without having to get a third bowl. (more…)

More Beans, Corn, and Peppers with Eggplant on the Way

This week was more harvesting of various vegetables including beans, corn, and peppers.  For now these will be the main harvesting vegetables that I will be picking over the next couple of weeks until my eggplants are ready.

I have about five eggplants growing on three plants which have been getting bigger each day since about a week ago.  My other plants are finally starting to get flowers and I think they will have enough time to start producing eggplants of their own. (more…)

Large Harvest of Corn with Steakhouse Tomatoes

This is just a short post I wanted to write about the two harvests that I had performed today.  It has been a while since I had picked my first steakhouse tomato and my first ear of corn.  Now that my corn and tomatoes are starting to ripen I thought it best to start picking them right away.

If I happen to leave corn outside for too long they can get real tough and it would have been a waste of time to grow all this corn in the garden. (more…)

Picking a Bowl Full of Cherry Tomatoes and Garden Update

I thought since it has been a while since I wrote a post that I would give you an update on the garden.  Now that all my plants are starting to produce fruit – except for broccoli and cabbage which will come later- I thought today would be a perfect time to take some pictures of the plants progress.

I left off with my corn producing silks which will lead to ears of corn as long as they are pollinated.  With the rain that we received yesterday much of the pollen has gotten wet and there is nothing that I can do except wait for it to dry and try to place it on the silks of the corn. (more…)

Transplanted Last of Tomatoes, Two Eggplants, and Five Pepper Plants

I had ten more tomatoes that were still in pots and continuing to grow, but starting to look like they were becoming pot bound.  This is something to avoid when growing indoors and since they had grown as far as they could in the containers I thought it would be best to place them in the garden right away.

I have over twenty tomato plants that are either steakhouse, Roma, or cherry tomatoes.  I should have more of the super sauce Roma plants than any of the others because I planted all 25 seeds that came in the packet and only a few of steakhouse and cherry.  Hopefully more sauce to be made this season. (more…)

Last of the Spinach Transplanted to Garden

I recently had planted nine of the strongest spinach plants into the garden last week and I had 11 that I wanted to place by the end of this week at the latest.  Yesterday I completed putting the rest into the garden and only took about a couple of hours.

I probably could have waited a little bit longer for the plants to grow more roots in order to make it easier to take them out of the containers.  Most of them seemed to come out pretty easily. (more…)
