Two Types of Lettuce Being Planted
Last updated onSimilar to last season I am going to plant two types which include black seeded Simpson and the Ruby glow hybrid. Both of these plants I had last season, but I was not too impressed on how these plants grew and I want grow them again.
I also had some problems with groundhogs which ended up eating most of the Ruby glow lettuce. This definitely decreased the yield that I could have received if I didn’t have to deal with these pests. That is why I am going to try it again this season.
Last year I used small plastic pots and I don’t think that worked out as well as I thought it would. Since these plants don’t need to stay inside that long I thought it would be wise to try out peat pots instead. This way I won’t have to worry too much about transplanting them. I can just place the whole pot right into the ground.
This year I am planting nine of each type and last year I think I planted a little bit more. I will most likely put these plants in between my spinach rows since this will keep all the cool weather crops together. I find that this works quite well.
I did add one last container with my dill that I have under fluorescent lights. There was some space left for a smaller container, but the same exact setup was used. This container I decided on planting a variety of seeds including both types of alyssum and dill.
I thought I would try out how these plants grow together in a smaller container. Hopefully it will work out well when it is time to place them in the ground.
So far I have been planting my smaller flowers that can easily grow in large containers together. I will soon be working on larger flowers such as sunflowers, cosmos, calendula, amaranthus, and much more. After that I will then begin planting the seeds that will make up the majority of the garden this year. Make sure to check back here periodically to get updates on my garden.
