Digging Up Carrots For Thanksgiving
Last updated onIt has been a while since I wrote my last post, but it has been pretty uneventful in regards to the garden. I have been picking broccoli on a consistent basis usually two to three times per week. At the moment I have been collecting and it seems that the cold weather is starting to get to them because they have stopped producing.
I picked some large heads this season which I am very happy about and also some small ones too. They didn’t taste bitter which I was a little worried about in the beginning, but in the end they had the exact taste I was looking for.
I decided on taking some pictures of the large heads and compared it to my hand so that you can kind of tell how big they were. Check it out below.
Here are a few harvests of broccoli that I was able to pick in the past month.
The last picture is probably the biggest harvest of broccoli that I was able to pick this season. If I could get that every year I would definitely be happy with my broccoli plants.
Today is the day before Thanksgiving and I always like to pick my carrots during this time. I love having the freshest carrots possible for Thursday and the carrots fine being in the cold ground. I find that this is a great way to store them before picking them and I have been doing this for many years with success.
I will admit that this years harvest wasn’t the greatest, but I did pick enough that I can use for tomorrow. Next year I will have to make certain that they get more nutrients than they did this season. This is very easily fixable.
Right now it looks like the season is over and I look forward to 2016 and what harvests I will get out of them. This season overall was quite good with some large sized peppers, delicious sweet corn, a large mountain of pole beans, and enough tomatoes to make plenty of sauce.
I am actually quite glad how the season came out and I will continue to pick whatever broccoli that I keep getting and that is how I will end 2015.
