Yea! It is the First Post For the New Garden Season
Last updated onA new start to the 2018 garden season with some new plantings that I will be starting inside and some outside when the time is right. I have begun planting some things indoors like flowers that include my alyssum and some dill. I have some large containers that they will start in before eventually transplanting them into the garden for maximum potential.
I decided on growing some new things like I did last season. Three new things this season include brussel sprouts, rhubarb, and again with potatoes. Most of them will be planted during the early spring along with lettuce, spinach, peas, radishes, and more.
Peas and radishes came out good last year and I will be planting them again. I will not start these inside and instead will plant them directly outside when the weather gets a little bit warmer. It seems likely that I will start planting around the same time that I will be planting my onions.
This spring season is going to be much larger than I thought because I will also be planting broccoli as well which is something that I usually do in the Fall. This year I wanted to try it in the Spring and see if it is better to grow it during the beginning of the season rather than in the end.
For now I have just planted broccoli, brussel sprouts, celery, lettuce, alyssum, and dill. I will be using a different type of lettuce as well. I have chosen the king crimson hybrid for the red lettuce instead of the ruby red hybrid, and for looseleaf I have picked green ice. These I have started inside and all the rest I will plant in rows.
For now I am just concentrating on getting my spring seeds planted for an early start. I might have to put them under some lights because there hasn’t been much sun lately and celery can take some time to sprout as with other seeds.
