Frost Officially Ended Summer Season
Last updated onJust recently we received a small to light frost that ended the season for most of my summer plants. I did have only a few harvests of the last peppers and one eggplant. Now that we have had many consecutive days of cold weather the plants are now gone except for cabbage, broccoli, and kale.
This past Sunday was a perfect day to start cutting and carving up as many pumpkins as possible. I had about seven to cut, but I only deciding on doing just four of them and leaving the others for another day.
I like to collect all the pumpkin seeds and then bake them in the oven with some spices and it makes for a good snack.
Over the past week or so I have been harvesting mainly broccoli and some cabbage. I am waiting for my kale leaves to get a little bit bigger before harvesting them again. So far I have been getting small harvests of broccoli as compared to last year.
This is due to the fact I had over 40 broccoli plants and this year I have about eight. I wanted to make sure that I had room for my kale and cabbage plants.
Here are some images of my fall crop for 2016.
Some large kale leaves.
Below is the first cabbage picked. I separated the leaves before rinsing them.
