Last Cucumber and Cherry Tomatoes Harvested
Last updated onToday I picked the last cucumber of the season making this one of the shorter years for this vegetable. I was able to harvest quite a few which added up to a large amount compared to other years where I didn’t get as many. They also didn’t all come at once which is great because I don’t have to eat them as fast as possible and can take my time with them.
I also saw some pole beans and cherry tomatoes that were ready as well and decided to pick them before they turned yellow or soft. I am still getting pole bean flowers and that means more beans are on the way until the first frost of the season. Cherry tomatoes are done for the most part and I am pretty certain all the other tomatoes are coming to an end.
Peppers are still growing and they keep producing flowers just like the pole beans. I have a few on the way that are getting bigger each day and as long as I keep caring for them they will get to a good size. Yesterday I picked a pepper that was probably one of the biggest that I picked for this season. It weighed a half a pound which is quite heavy for a home grown bell pepper.
As I said previously I picked the last cucumber for this season from one of the last plants that survived this long. It wasn’t a bad size and as long as it has that sweet taste that most of them retained this season, that is all I care about.
I harvested a little more than a dozen cherry tomatoes today along with some pole beans. There wasn’t enough pole beans to can or store them and they will probably be used in the next couple of weeks.
I still have six eggplants that are ripening at this moment and should be harvested within the week once they are ready. My cabbage plants are still growing quite well too and once the cooler weather approaches they should start to grow very fast. For the moment I am getting them ready for the fall by providing them with what they need right now.
Carrots are still growing and I will keep them in the ground for a few extra months once they are done. The ground will be used for storing of these vegetables for just a couple of months. Once the time is right I will dig them up and depending on how many I get either store them or used them right away.
