First Zucchini of the Season and More Lettuce Picked

So far I have been picking lettuce both Ruby glow and iceberg, but today I finally got to pick something new for the season.  The very first zucchini of 2016 was recorded this morning in my gardening journal.  It weighed three pounds and looks to be used within the next couple of days.

I also picked the most amount of leaves this morning from my iceberg lettuce patch.  My Ruby glow hybrid looks like it is going to seed very soon.  It is not surprising since these plants do not like the heat and it has been very warm for them over the past couple of weeks. (more…)

Pole Beans: The Next Vegetable to be Harvested

I went through the entire garden today and wanted to see if there were any other fruits or vegetables that might be ready for a small harvest.  I have been noticing that some of my tomatoes were beginning to ripen and they might soon be harvested in a week or less.

Wanted to give a quick update on the garden so far and how many plants are finally starting to produce.  Some of the ones I want to discuss include peppers, cucumbers, melons, and beans.  I have not mentioned much about my peppers, but now they are beginning to flower and grow peppers.

I also went through all my melons to see if I could find some that have been pollinated and are ready to get much bigger.  They tend to grow every single day and you could even keep tract of how much they grow each day.  This is something that I don’t do, but I do take pictures of them each day to see the difference. Three More Eggplants Harvested

Another slow week for gardening and with the weather getting cooler plants are starting to whither and die.  Yesterday we had plenty of rain that helped in the growth of my cabbage, celery, and pole beans that are continuing to produce flowers.

I didn’t think pole beans would last this long, but I am not complaining because I love beans.  Today I picked up three more eggplants that had showed signs of ripeness when I took a look at them.  Now that I have picked three today I only have one left that is still in the garden.  That one will be harvested soon with some more good weather.
