First Zucchini of the Season and More Lettuce Picked

Last updated on

So far I have been picking lettuce both Ruby glow and iceberg, but today I finally got to pick something new for the season.  The very first zucchini of 2016 was recorded this morning in my gardening journal.  It weighed three pounds and looks to be used within the next couple of days.

I also picked the most amount of leaves this morning from my iceberg lettuce patch.  My Ruby glow hybrid looks like it is going to seed very soon.  It is not surprising since these plants do not like the heat and it has been very warm for them over the past couple of weeks.

I want to first take a look at the zucchini that was picked today since this is something new for the year.

Another big one that can be used very easily.  It is three pounds of pure zucchini that I can’t wait to use sometime this week.

My lettuce was another harvest that I accomplished today and was the biggest one in terms of number of leaves.  80 leaves came out of this harvest and I am quite sure I will not have many more harvests because of the hot summer weather.

Now I want to show you some of the progress that my garden has been undertaking.  I am getting flowers from many plants including cucumbers, melons, and pole beans.

My tomatoes are also coming in and I think I have plenty of cherry tomatoes and Roma tomatoes.

My pumpkin is finally starting to grow to a good size and another pumpkin is coming from the same exact vine.  Having two from one vine is not as bad as some think.  In fact I think having two is pretty efficient.
