First Harvest of Corn, Cantaloupe, and Some More Tomatoes

Last updated on

It has been very busy this week especially with all new harvests of corn and cantaloupes.  The cantaloupe was nearly by accident because I wanted to check out the connection between the melon and the vine and when I turned it over it just came right off.  Good thing the melon was pretty much ready anyways.

The other cantaloupe that I picked was coming off from the vine so I just decided on removing it since it was going to come done at any moment.  No reason to leave it on the vine like that.

Each cantaloupe weighed three pounds and were good sizes.

Two Cantaloupes Harvested

Three Pound Cantaloupe

Now I did pick some corn and it was only one ear for now.  There are plenty of ears out there that are probably real close or are actually ready for harvesting.  I will have to go through the stalks and check each one to make sure that they do not stay out there if they are ready.  I don’t want them to become overripe.

Here I was cooking the first ear of corn of the season.

First Ear of Corn of the Season

I had it for lunch and it was really sweet and delicious.  I can’t wait to pick plenty more of them.

Not only did I pick some new vegetables and fruit today I also picked a boatload of tomatoes.  This includes all three of Roma, steakhouse, and cherry tomatoes.

I picked three containers of Roma tomatoes today and they weighed over 20 pounds!

Cherry and Roma Tomatoes

Here are the first two containers of Roma tomatoes along with seven pounds of cherry ones.

Third Container of Roma Tomatoes

This is the last container of Romas that were harvested today.  I also did pick some steakhouse tomatoes as well.  They are not as big as they should have been, but I can still use them nonetheless.

I also got some more cucumbers today and one zucchini.

Five Cucumbers Harvested

Good sized cucumbers that can be used for some relish or just for cutting into slices.

Four and a Half Pound Zucchini

This is what I like to call the second tier zucchini.  I had a first tier which ended early in the month and the plants started coming back by producing new leaves, flowers, and vegetables.  Now I should be getting more of them in this second harvest.  This is the first one for now and more are on the way.

I also may be getting another watermelon on the way from the second plant in the garden.  I had planted this seed later in the garden and didn’t think that it would get to the stage of producing flowers and fruits.  I just discovered a fruit on the vine that might lead to another watermelon for the season.

Start of Watermelon

I will have to watch this fruit closely and if it starts getting bigger each day then that will mean I will be possibly getting another watermelon.  I can only hope that the bees around pollinated this fruit.

The other thing is I still have pole beans to pick which probably could have been done today, but I wanted to wait another day to get some really big beans.
