When Harvests Arrive They Come with Abundance
Last updated onIt looks like the peak of the harvest season has arrived this summer. I have been picking vegetables such as cucumbers, corn, zucchini, peppers, and hopefully real soon will be my tomatoes. I have melons and pumpkins that are growing and should start picking them this month. Along with harvesting my vegetables I will be placing my broccoli transplants into the garden very soon. This will be for a fall harvest once the cooler weather arrives in a couple of months or so.
Today was the last of the corn that I needed to pick and got a good 19 pounds of them. I have now successfully harvested both rows of corn and it is time to remove the stalks from the soil. I think I had a decent season of corn this year, but next year I plan on growing a different type. I am not sure yet, but that is for next year.
My cucumber plants are doing well and are still producing cucumbers along with pickle types as well. Today I picked one of the largest cucumbers I have ever grown in the garden. I didn’t even know that this cucumber was there until I started looking around a moving leaves aside. Once I saw the size I knew that I needed to pick it right away.
I have also been picking peppers and zucchini quite steadily and have not have a large harvest of either of them. I only have eight plants of peppers which should bring a steady amount per week without having to can any of them. I have been using my zucchini as well and with four more plants that might start producing zucchini soon I think I could have a good amount of them for this year.
I also should soon start seeing beans on my trellis now that they are starting to produce flowers. I will probably give them some kelp meal soon in order to continue getting flowers. They were planted a little bit late which is why they are starting to produce flowers now. I am looking forward to picking these beans real soon once they arrive on the vines.
