Third Strawberry Harvest With Zucchini and Tomatoes Flowering

Another harvest of strawberries was completed this week and this time I was able to get about two and a half pounds of these delicious berries.  I think this will be the most that I pick this year unless I have a very exceptional summer or late crop harvest.  The good news is that I picked more than last year which is always good news for any garden.

Some more great things are happening with some of my other plants as well.  Flowers are beginning to emerge from my zucchini and tomato plants.  The zucchini are actually starting to show signs of fruit which may or may not have been pollinated.  I always rely on bees and I try to stay away from pollinating plants by hand.  The only plant that I pollinate are the corn stalks when they are ready.Tomatoes are self pollinating which means that I don’t have to worry at all about them because they will be pollinated by themselves.  This goes for all types of tomatoes including the cherry, Roma, and steakhouse tomatoes that I planted this year.

Here are some images of the zucchini flowers and fruit that I have noticed on many of my plants today.  I will know in a day or two whether or not it has been pollinated or not.

Here you can see that one of the flowers has yet to open which means in a day or so it will flower attracting bees to do their job.

Once they start flowering they usually will all begin to generate fruit and grow at an incredible rate.  Keep an eye for any parasites or worms that can be around them.  They can be a real hassle if you are not careful.

Another week of delicious strawberries and this year has been very good for harvesting this fruit.  I love strawberries and always enjoy them as much as I can since they only come once per year.

It doesn’t look like much but they weighed over 2 1/2 pounds and there were a little over a hundred berries in this bowl.  Either way they are still edible and will probably last only a couple of days.

One quick update I wanted to add to this post are the blueberries which are going to be ready to pick in a couple of weeks.  I usually pick them around the first week in July or earlier.  From looking at the berries it seems that they are on schedule.
