Complete Onion Harvest and More Tomatoes

Last updated on

Yesterday I was able to get the entire onion harvest completed.  It doesn’t take long to take out onions once you get started it goes very quickly.  All I do is pull them out and brush off all the loose dirt and place them in a large container.  Since I have five totes full of onions a small bucket will fill up very fast.

In total I was able to get over 30 pounds of onions and a count of 95.  It seems like placing twenty bulbs in the beginning is the right amount you can place in these size totes.

These are the onions I pulled out yesterday.

They were all about the size of my hand.  This year they grew much bigger than last year.  The previous season I got about 200 onions and about 34 pounds.  As you can see this year I focused on quality rather than quantity and I was able to achieve that goal.

Once I picked them I then braided them together so that they are easier to store and use for future use.

Today I saw that blueberries were ready for some more picking.  I will note that not many of the bushes have many of these berries left.  There is only one bush that has a significant amount that I could probably do another harvest and that will be it for the season.  Two and a half pounds was picked.

I also was able to get another steakhouse tomato and some cherry tomatoes as well.  The cherry ones are doing real good and so are the steakhouse ones.  I am looking forward to picking Roma tomatoes so that I can start using them for sauce making.  This is the main reason that I grow these specific plants.

Here is a mix of tomatoes and a cucumber that I picked this morning.
