Cutting the First Honeydew Melon
Last updated onThis year I decided on trying something somewhat new that I haven’t grown before. This season I wanted to try out honeydew melons along with watermelon and cantaloupes. I have been growing cantaloupes and watermelons every year, but this year I wanted to add a different melon into the mix.
I picked my honeydew melon a few days ago and left it in the fridge because I do not like eating warm fruit. I would say that it only takes about a day for the fruit to become cold enough to eat. Today I decided on finally cutting the melon and see what is inside.
I looks quite good inside and despite the fact that the plant ended up dying towards the end it was able to produce a tasty and juicy melon just in time.
Speaking about melons I was able to pick another cantaloupe today along with some tomatoes and peppers. This cantaloupe was also two and a half pounds the same as the first one I picked this year. I would like to see them a little bit bigger, but I will have to remedy that situation for next year. I am just a little bit more focused on taste rather than size.
I still have a few more in the garden that I have to wait for until they are ripe. I also still have my watermelons that have stopped growing and are probably filling out inside the melon. Basically all the sugars that a watermelon has is being produced by the plant right now. I would say sometime this month they should be ready and ripe enough to pick.
Some cherry tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, and peppers were picked this afternoon as well. I though I was going to pick some more beans, but instead decided on focusing on more peppers and tomatoes.
I got some big sized Roma tomatoes today along with some large peppers.
At the moment it looks like my cucumber plants are pretty much exhausted and will not be growing any more fruit. This same goes for most of my zucchini plants as well. I do have a couple that are continuing to grow and produce, but I don’t think they are going to be as big.
I do have eggplants that are growing outside and I should be picking them in the next couple of days. I have one that is really big and I hope to pick it very soon. I also have some that are below average size and hopefully I will have enough to make some eggplant Parmesan.
