Looking Towards Harvesting Fruits and Vegetables

Last updated on

So far things are going good and plants are beginning to produce some food including both fruits and vegetables.  There are some tomatoes and zucchini that are beginning to show themselves.  These are the only two plants that will most likely start the summer harvesting season.

Most of my spring crops are done for the season and they were able to produce quite a bit of harvests.  I am happy with my lettuce and collected several hundred leaves this season.  I do have some Ruby glow lettuce that might have one last picking, but that is about it.

It is time for the summer season to begin.  The first harvesting I did this week was from my blueberry bushes.  I had worked on the soil around them because they were not growing that well the past couple of years.

With the rejuvenating of the soil I was able to finally get some blueberries this season.  They began turning blue about a couple of weeks ago and this week they were ready for picking.

It is not that big of a harvest, but after what I did to them and how sick they looked I think this is pretty good for the first harvest.  There are still plenty of berries out there and I am sure I will get a few more harvests for the year.

I am also getting some tomatoes as well.  I think they are cherry tomatoes because of there size, but I should be getting beefsteak and then Roma very soon as well.

The last vegetable I saw that was starting to produce were my zucchini plants.  Not all of them have some fruit coming, but it is only a matter of time before they all will have some zucchini on them.  My pumpkins will come much later since they take a little bit longer to mature.
