Several Plantings and a Harvest in the Past Two Days
Last updated onFor the past couple of days I have been focusing on getting all my transplants into the garden including peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, pickle cucumbers, and the last of my honeydew melons. I also needed to plant at least one row of carrot seeds.
I first started with my cucumbers yesterday which I wanted to get done as quickly as possible because there was going to be some rain coming later in the day. I was able to get both my straight eight cucumbers and pickle cucumbers into the ground.
Today I moved on to my peppers and eggplants that were in peat pots and were a little bit soaked from last night’s rain. Since they are wet enough I don’t have to water them for a couple of days depending on the weather.
Later today I then worked on the last fruit/vegetable transplants for now. My honeydew melon plants were actually ready for the garden. The plants were small, but the roots were already going right through the peat pot material.
So far the only transplants that are left are just my flowers which I will be putting in the ground within the week. Now that my main transplants are done I can focus on planting some carrot and bean seeds.
I ended up setting the bean trellis yesterday and got my bean seeds planted right away. I only set up ten feet of the bean trellis because this year I am not going to be planting as much and as a result I don’t need the entire trellis.
Carrots were another seed that I wanted to get planted today. I was only able to plant just one row of carrots because I was actually beginning to run out of space. Luckily I found a place where I could get at least one row of carrots.
Today was also a good day to pick some more lettuce leaves. This time I got 56 leaves which is just one more than my previous harvest. I have only picked from about five plants and I have many more that will be ready real soon.
My pea plants are beginning to get flowers and start blooming. I hope to get some pea pods real soon now that a little bit warmer weather is here.
