Beans are Mature Enough for Harvesting Along With Eggplants

Last updated on

This will be quite a long post since I haven’t written one in awhile. Many harvests have been happening over the past several weeks. Some of these harvests include many fruits and vegetables. Many of them are the first for the season such as beans, cantaloupes, and even eggplants. I also have my fall crop in the ground which includes both broccoli and kale. These I will be harvesting far into the fall season and possibly longer depending on the weather.

I have also been continuing to harvest many of the other fruits of vegetables since the last post. Cherry, Roma, and beefsteak tomatoes are still ripening and I have been picking them on a weekly basis. I have already made one batch of tomato sauce and I have enough to make another one once I pick just a few more Roma tomatoes from the garden.

A bunch of Roma tomatoes which will be used for making sauce.
Two good sized beefsteak tomato great for sandwiches.

Since the last post I have started picking pole beans and I have gone through five harvests over the past few weeks. I will be picking more of them this week as well which makes this the sixth harvest of the year. They have been a good size and with the weather getting a little bit cooler I will probably not have that many harvests left from them.

Melons are also new to harvesting specifically cantaloupes. I have only harvested one honeydew for the season, but I have picked at least three cantaloupes from the garden in the recent weeks. My watermelon is not quite ready yet, but I would guess that any day now it will be ready for harvesting. It is a decent size and it will probably take a few weeks to go through the whole thing.

The most recent vegetable that I have started harvesting are my eggplants. I planted many eggplants this season and this means that I may be harvesting many of them from all my plants. I am not worried about having too many eggplants because none of them will go to waste. So far I have picked the oldest ones that I could find and ones that needed to be picked right away because they were ripe enough.

Just a couple of eggplants picked recently.

I will continue to harvest many of my other vegetables such as peppers, tomatoes, beans, eggplants, and soon my broccoli and kale. As long as a frost doesn’t come too soon I will have many more harvests to complete in the next few weeks to come.
